Im sure it was somewhere on here that i read about a unit that face mounted on a normal blanking plate on the front of any standard pc case that triggered the pc to power up via a remote press... instead of just going and pressing the case power on button.

Anyone sourced one of these units or anthing like it, as i would like to get one for my dell htpc case.

    Thanks.

You'd be better off investigating Wake on Lan, you can get phone apps that do WOL. It's also built into the XBMC remote app.

No WOL option that i can see available on the dell (its fairly old).

Would prefer an IR solution as the htpc will be moved soon to a tucked away area and controlled via IR repeater hopefully.

IR only works when the OS is loaded so no possibility of turning on the PC. You sure there's no WOL option for the Lan card in the Bios, I'd be surprised if there wasn't tbh. A standard MCE remote will give you all media player functions on an IR remote, but you'd need to use WOL to power on if there isn't an option to keep the usb powered on when shutdown.

    Not quite true .

I have two HTPC cases ( Silverstone CW02 amd Silverstone LC16 ) with built in Soundgraph / iMon IR receivers .

Both of them can turn on the pc from off , and turn them off as well .

They connect to the 24 pin ATX cable ( with an adapter ) as well as the case power switch and a usb header .

    Soundgraph do a 3.5" bay receiver - http://www.soundgraph.com/inside-feature-en/ ,

Overclockers have it in both black and silver .

This might be what the OP was looking for .

I can't comment on the remote that comes with the Soundgraph devices , I have always used my Harmony One with them ( set up as an MCE Remote )

I'm not sure if the 3.5" device can use MCE remotes or just the one it comes supplied with .

They also do 5.25" devices with built in LCD / VFD displays ( as well as the IR receiver )

    Hope this helps .

If you don't mind a bit of DIY:
    IR switch module from Simerec.com

    Instructions via Instructables

Have a look at this: http://www.rfpcremote.com. It uses RF and needs no cutting or soldering.

What are you supposed to do with the bare, tinned, wires, if not solder them to something?

you put them into the relay driver board slots and fasten the screws to make connections. You only need a screw driver.
