Credit Card Handling Fee is Now an Administration Fee.

I work for a company (I won't name) who for the last few years has been charging a 6euro credit/debit card handling fee on all credit/debit card transactions. The majority of company sales happen online and people have just been dealing with it. A way around this charge was to come to the office and pay by cash or cheque.

Enter the new legislation in the UK which states that a company cannot charge more for a credit/debit card transaction to process than it costs them. As this company trades highly in the UK and knowing that Ireland would soon follow something had to be done and quickly. The average cost per transaction was 25-50c. What this clever company has decided to do is rename the Credit/Debit Card handling fee as "Administration Fee" and has decided to apply it to all transactions including those made by cash or cheque.

It really has made a mockery out of what the consumer groups in the UK and Ireland have been trying to do to cut out these unfair charges. If they want to charge people extra, it is all well and good but don't aggressively advertise a price and put the 6 euro on top of it. Just put it on the price. There has literally been no benefit to the customer by what has happened in the UK.

Ha ... you should come to Germany .. comparatively speaking nobody takes Credit Card. If you mention Paypal they assume you are a scammer.

at the end of the day, the final price will be the same - whether they call it an admin fee, a toilet fee or any other fee. If they are not allowed ot add any fees at all, then they just bump up the price of the item/service.

If you are happy with the final price, then fine, if the final price is not good enough, shop elsewhere.
