    Since when? They still online

I can only tell that there is a blank mono carrier on 104.2 since Tuesday afternoon - Lightning damage apparently

Spirit 90.1 is Bray, 92.2 is indeed Saggart, 107.2 Newstalk should be Mt Leinster and 107.6 Newstalk is Saggart

Not sure where 105.8 is but I could get it up the Dublin Mtns too

Any chance the BBC frequencies are Kilkeel rather than Brougher Mtn?

I don't think so - a bit too much rock in the way (plus 99.0 has stereo and RDS) Kilkeel doesn't

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,795 ✭✭✭DopeTech

Newstalk coming in on 107.9 this afternoon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭radioguru02

    Hearing nothing on 99.5
Rince's signal seems to be stronger on 88.1.

Phever blasting out..Could hear them clearly enough to the Naas exit on the N7..audio was dropping off towards the N9 exit off the N7 but the only Dublin pirate heard out that way.

Anyone know the source of Newstalk 107.9 in north Dublin area?

i can't find any mention of it by anything to do with newstalk so god knows what it is . maybe it's another "relay" that is suddenly needed years after the station launched dispite the fact that coverage issues could have been solved ages ago just like a couple of other stations in dublin? but then again if it was surely they're would be mention of it on their site or somewhere official that is accessable?

Funny it happened within days of a pirate appearing on the same frequency. Unless it is the pirate operator relaying Newstalk? Possible, but unlikely.

It has full RDS and everything. The only time it came in at full strength on my radio today was at the M50/M1 Interchange, any chance it's a relay for Balbriggan?

Its on Clermont Carn - signal is 15db down on the RTE stuff on the same site which would indicate it's around 1kW ERP

If I'm not mistaken, that sounds like Tracey Lee doing the voiceovers which were added to Rince Radio on 88.1 (formerly of Sunset & Today FM and more recently appeared on Non-Stop Nineties).

    Here's a recording...

i see. do you know the reason for this new transmitter?

indeed but 107.9 isn't the best frequency anyway and hadn't been used for years.

There's a Newstalk TX on 107.0 in Dundalk. This is surely now surplus to requirements?

i don't know, but even if it was it's unlikely it would be turned off?

Would've thought having a relay for an area wholly covered by another TX wouldn't really scream efficiency. The relay is basically at the foot of a mountain carrying the main TX!

The 107.0 is actually much stronger in Dundalk town centre as its probably similar power but 7km closer - I remember an old wise engineer saying in the 80s that 5W in a town centre is better than 5kW, 5 miles outside the town centre
