It may happen in 2018, Lots of us ex pirate djs have been discussing the prospect of a new professional station, lack of top of the range Tx and studio equipment isn't a problem in fact between us all we have more than enough, it's just having the time to run it, most of us are busy with our own jobs and other work and seldom find the time to meet up.

Sounds good! What kind of music? Fm I assume?

Apart from the one off 'Fun FM' it was a very quiet Christmas on the FM band in Dublin.
Phever 91.6,Trax 107.1 and Energy 1395 where the only stations logged on New Years Eve.

Connect has not reappeared though now have an audio stream, Chill87.6 and Space remain off air.

There was a carrier on 96.0 - low power but sufficient to block BBC R4.

Lots of legal AM stations audible alas no Caroline on 648 - though significant technical issues resulted in the link to the Caroline TX failing and an announcement of technical issues and the same song (time passages) - well half the same song on repeat ensued for a number of days over the Christmas period.

Christmas 2018 may be a little bit busier - 30 years and all that.

its a low power relay of Kiss FM UK - 10.7Mhz from 2FM 90.7 might not be the cleverest move........,additionally suffers a lot of interference from Today FM

This appears to have been renamed to "RetroNow". Picked it up a few weeks ago when I was in Dunboyne.

106.0 is Redrock Country from Carlow. What type of music was on 105.7?

Thanks for that - listened for approx half an hour with no IDs

105.7 it was a mix of one of the low power relay stations afaik - not sure what station it was relaying and another low power station. NT on 105.8 made identification difficult.

Probably either No. 1FM or Absolute 80’s.
Flirt 106.6 is the massive coverage signal from Laois

Kiss Fm usually on around 10pm _ 8am most weekends. 101.4

612kHz active from somewhere in Donegal - continuous music on Saturday 6th with a fairly decent signal in the Letterkenny area.
Radio Star seem to be off air on 981kHz since Storm Eleanor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭radioguru02

As well as Redrock Country106 today in Carlow, I also picked up an chillout/country station on 93.7FM. Like Redrock it had no ID’s.
The carrier on 107.4 in Athy seems to be gone.
Btw for those interested, it seems a radio war has begun between True Radio and Play FM in Cork, refer to comments made on True Radio Cork’s FB page.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,224 ✭✭✭radioguru02

    So in a nutshell:
True’s plan was to return to air, but Play have begun to conduct test broadcasts anyway, with the intent to use the frequency.

RETRONOW and No.1fm fighting over 105.7 in Blanch area. RETRONOW not to be confused with retro fm which is on 91.0

Is this the same relay of a Turkish pop station which appears now and again on that frequency? No.1FM I mean

Yes, that and metro fm share that frequency, the would appear to be broadcasting/relaying from clondalkin as the signal seems strongest there. Is RETRONOW coming from Meath does anyone know?

Some kind of downconversion going on there. All frequencies moved down by 18MHz (97.0 -> 79.0, 98.1-> 80.1 etc)

Would that not put RTE2FM 3 rock on 72.7 (out of range on the Japanese FM Band)

It would. The poster above was receiving 2FM from Clermont Carn on 97.0

Heard a Country and Irish station in Cavan/Virginia at the weekend. It was on 99.4FM with no RDS. No liners either, with a ‘flat’ sound. The music seemed to be playing from a ‘Winamp’ style application or iPod in that the music was random selection with no cross fade. Any ideas what this station is, history, etc?
