So sadly for the second time in three years I have been let go from a job, this time I will have no finanicial cushion so I have to get any job fast.

So I am thinking of stripping my CV and hitting the streets this weekend to see what's out there. A little background though, I've been working in a specialised role for five years and before that I was a administrator of sorts. I only worked in a shop when I was 17 for about four weeks although I do have about five years experience in a warehouse.

So does anyone have any advice as to how I can get around this? I know speaking to someone face to face I can charm them to a certain extent and I am more than capable of any kind of customer facing job. But I am worried about getting the whole 'oh but once you have something better you will be off again'.

So I guess there is no way around this!

If you need immediate work would you think of putting your administration experience to the fore and sending your c.v. to office recruitment agencies. It might give you some breathing space even if it were a temporary role.

That's in my plan too, but thank you! :)

You need to tailor your CV to the type of employer you are speaking to. Don't lie, just put things in terms they can understand. (A less polite way of putting it is to say "make a dumbed-down version".)

If necessary, leave off job titles, just say you worked at XYZ Ltd and describe your responsiblilites in very general terms, not specialist ones.

Thanks, I have put in things like dealing with clients and members of the public, budget management, managing workloads.

I had a chat with a lady who runs a Spar near where I work and she said if she had a few hours extra she would throw them my way, which was encouraging. I am going to go round my local area this evening and see how I get on!

Roundabout Job hunter in Essex got 4 job offers. Its desperate with so few jobs going that people have to resort to this. Best of luck in your job hunting.

So, I have handed out about 30 general CVs so far and although everyone was very friendly and nice I haven't gotten one phone call. I can't imagine how kids with no work experience manage it.
