    Fri 4/10

    6 mi @ 6.49 MPM 165 HR AVG

Met Tommy today after getting my results from all the tests. We ran the Lakes 10k route in reverse and it felt easy. Chatting away so it must of been easy. I was wearing the new ON Cloudsurfers which have a spring in them. Have a 10k race tomorrow and 20 miler Sunday before taper.

Results from Echogram came back and heart is in great shape. They need to do a CAT scan due to something showing on both side of Chest/lungs which need a closer luck. But they said my heart is in great shape and to continue running.

    Punchestown 10k

    6.2 mi @ 6:20 MPM 169 HR AVG

    2.8 mi w/d

This is a very special race as it is my local school and the first official race I entered last year. Back to where I started. 11 minute PB on last years time. What made it more special today was my son winning the 5k in the kids category coming 3rd over all. He ran his first 5k a few days back and has never ran before. He ran 26 minutes easily and he is 10. Be interesting to see what happens when he learns to push hard. Down for some running gear during the week. This was a proud moment!

Anyway my race was different I came 7th as a few 32 lads turned up. The course around puncestown seemed tougher then the lakes 10k.

I warmed up with Tommy who won the 10k in 32 minutes. I was kind of glad that I was beating into 7th as coming first with a 39 would seem wrong. I am now going into aerobic mode until after Dublin.

I guess there is nothing much more to report as I settled into 7th and was on my own for the entire race with not a sight of anyone to challenge me. Maybe I would have got a PB if someone was there to push me. 6th place was not an option. I went out a little faster then planned and suffered a little my heart rate got up to 181 :p......

    (5:59,6:15,6:30,6:40,6:39,633, 51 seconds for the last .2)

3 mile warm down with Tommy around the 5k route. He wasn't expecting a 32 minute run like that today :)

Great atmosphere and music a pre race grub. 20 miler tomorrow with some easy pacing.

    Sun 6/10

    20 mi @ 8:25 MPM 149 HR AVG Elevation 856 gain 855 loss

To polish off this part of the training cycle I met up with my buddy Brian. He has been wanting to hit Lacken and Ballyknocking over the far side of the lakes. He want someone to push him a little and I wanted an easy run so the mix worked as his marathon time is slower then mine.

It was a senic and rolling route with some amazing views. My IT band was annoying me for the first 10 miles but I went onto the balls off my feet for a while trying not to let the heal contact the ground much. This seemed to help and it eased off. We got a good few PMP miles in for Brian (8 MPM) so it was easy enough run but I am feeling the legs needing a good taper! Oh yeah it is time!!!!!

Great run to finish off and was an amazing route. Want more elevation after the marathon so will be heading deeper into the mountains!

    Mon 14/10

Thai Massage to try and help. Trying to get to psyhio during the week. I think it is caused by weakened hip muscles which cause all the rest to overload. Very similar to what happened on the left side. Say a prayer it is ok by the 28th!

Wow 39.2 miles this week :(

3rd day not running. Was with physio today and he is happy for me to run tomorrow and thinks I'll be fine for DCM. Issues are with glute med and piriformis which in turn overloads the TFL/IT Band/hip flexor etc. Has calmed down a lot in the few days I took off and will start exercises provided by physio.

4.5 mi @ 7:21 MPM (need new battery for HRM)

Legs killing me, like a demon I am. I had to stop due to right leg IT Band and glute. Iced, stretched and foam
    Roller + Sliotar.

    Wore cloudsurfers

    18/10

    4 mi @ 7:50 MPM

Again had to stop. Iced, stretched and foam
    Roller + Sliotar.

    Wore Kinvara.

    19/10

70 mins running on treadmill at about 74% effort. First time I've enjoyed a run in weeks. Lots of stretching and rolling. IT Band and glute on right side mildly effecting me now. I am more positive today.

Wore Kinvara and will continue too! Will revisit cloudsurfers soon.

Make sure you get your head right before the marathon. The itb should hold up ok if you take it easy and go off at the correct pace.

By the way, 74% effort??? :D

That's a good line, however I have no doubt that you will ignore your coach's instructions

    Wed 23/10

45 minutes @ (141 BPM) 74% of max heart rate

Ran this on the treadmill again and the time flew by. I wanted to keep going but I need save it. I had to put the treadmill up full blast to get the heart rate up. The OH owns it I must upgrade it as legs recovering rapidly since using it. I have changed my opinion of them now as it has it's place and is helping heal my niggles and stop me from going too fast! Monday will be epic!!!

Best of luck Monday. Run sensible in the first half and if it's there on the day you'll smash it in the second half.

Pulled up at mile 15 and couldn't get going again due to ITB/TFL. I tried twice to get going again but it was even painful to walk. I started off 7:30 pace for the first few miles even at that I started to feel it. I picked up pace a little which helped for a while but was down hill after St. James hospital. Tried slowing it to 8-9 min pace but it just wasn't happening it was safer to stop. I'll be back next year.

Getting better thanks, I was back running (20 mins slow) the Wednesday after marathon. I'm now running 5 miles easy twice daily. And each running it's getting better.

I must update the log I just can't write a detail account of Monday. I bounced back after Clontarf and it's not the same leg as then. I need to keep up the strengthening and it won't happen next time. Some short stuff including cross country and track as my off season. :)
