Large fleet of European Naval vessels in Dublin today

I spotted the French command ship 'Marne' arriving into Dublin Bay at lunchtime today.

The Dublin Port status list tells me no less than HMS Illustrious, FGS Hessen (German frigate) along with Marne, a German naval oiler Rhon and Dutch naval survey vessel Luymes are all on berth today. Sounds like a fully operational navy group! Meanwhile an Irish P20 PV is hiding off Dun Laoghaire!

Either this Troika business just got serious, or its a courtesy thing for the EU presidency. Some good photo ops down at the port today either way!

I was jogging through Merrion Sq this morning and at The Eternal Flame there was some commemoration going on involving a French military tricolour and some other colours being held by some veterans in green berets?

I noticed that the Irish Tricolour was on the smaller of the 3 flag poles, the other 2 were empty.

Didn't know what to make of it.

French Foreign Legion celebration I'd guess.

The (inaugural) Foreign Legion Association of Ireland will be celebrating Camerone on the 27th. The French Ambassador will be presenting the Association with their standard, before all heading off for a good knees up.

No point going down, not allowed past the port checkpoint. You'll get shots from the south side of the river.

If the Pentagon was under ISPS, 9/11 would never have happened!
