I just came across playon.co.uk/ which is basically a weekly fantasy football game where you pick a fresh team each week. From the site:

PlayON is Weekly Fantasy Football. Pick a fresh team of 11 players every week. The team that scores the most points wins the pot.

Earn bragging rights over your friends in One-on-One games. Win serious cash pots in Multiplayer Games. And at the weekend, watch your team rack up points in real time on your phone.

All you need to do is:

    Pick Your Team
    Enter Games
    Enjoy the Live Experience

Is anyone playing this at the moment?

There's a review of it here:

    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2013/04/26/introducing-playon/

Not sure what to make of it based on the description there. On one hand I like the simplicity of picking a fresh team each week, and that there's no restriction on the number of players from each team.

On the other hand, the article on FFS says:
'The depth comes in when you start to look at player prices. These vary week to week and are based on an algorithm that measures recent performance and adjusts their price accordingly. With a bit of research and knowledge, then, you can easily spot a bargain to hopefully give you an edge.'
That sounds pretty complicated, and sounds like you would have to put a lot of effort into it!

Edit: I haven't sign up. Might wait for some feedback from here first.

I set up a team for the weekend to see what it's like. I think I'm retiring from playing FPL after the season is over as it has become too gruelling a game imo (38 weeks of highs, lows, swings, roundabouts, luck, misfortune and having to listen to roryc and lemlin bicker at each other).

I like the idea of a fantasy game where you can play one weekend at a time, dip in and out as you'd see fit and make a bit of profit over the long term if you know your stuff.

Not sure if this is it though.

The User Experience driving the site is pretty appalling which is a massive red flag for me.

And then there's the game, it's really difficult to pick a decent team as price is clearly driven by form. It looks like bargains are to be had in gambling on guys in bad form who are likely to turn it around. I'm not sure how helpful research would be beyond knowing who is likely to see an increase in game time all of a sudden.

And the scabby bastards could do with offering a free roll or two. But no, it's either the free game or a paid game.

In saying that, if I top this free league come the weekend I could be sucked in.

No "having to" about it. There's an ignore button and if you don't want to read the posts, scroll on by.

I think I'll also be retiring so that'll put an end to it too. Not worth it anymore without a work league.

My takings for the year are less than 50% of what they used to be and I can beat my friends with little effort.

A smiley may have indicated that I wasn't being serious there. My bad.

But yeah, the paid leagues I enter are of a really high standard forcing you to be on top of your game week in/week out and work/friend leagues can be won at a canter.

There doesn't seem to be much middle ground any more.
