I do like the Old Grey Whistle Test, but I miss the bemused crowd dancing awkwardly that you get in TOTP2.

Can never get tired of 'Spinal Tap'! TOTP2 is on at 1, but I think it was on recently (Andrew Gold, Brian and Michael)

    Love Spinal Tap so much.

The in character Commentary on the DVD is brilliant, too.

"I don't see why people couldn't understand why the amps were special. It's simple really, most amps only go to ten ..."

And the often laughable attempts at miming (know what i mean, Ian Brown?).

I liked it when bands took the piss out of the miming.

If you look carefully, there is a small but crucial mistake here :)

Sorry for standing you up Grey :( I thought the line-up seemed awful poor tonight so I've been watching TV50 programmes on the RTE Player instead. There is some good stuff on there.

I reckon Harry is busy organising passports and visas ahead of our visit to the Peoples Republic of Cork :D:D:D

You didn't miss much. It was very odd in places.

You must be very happy about Gerald and Lisa's news (it came up during the thread, as these things do) ...

Fantastic Glen Campbell documentary...a repeat, but definitely worth watching even if you're not a fan.

And yes, I realize at this point we should start a 'Post-SNS' thread!

I'm just watching Saturday Live with Rhona Paisley (1987 - RTÉ Player). I think RTE should seriously think about bringing back this format, even it was just for the summer period. It would be nice to have a different guest presenter every week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

Now I'm listening to Glen Cambell.............

I know all about him, my sister had all his albums, along with the K-Tel, Johnny Cash and ...........nana mouskouri..............

I know what goes down on BBC4 in the dark night.......:):):)

I believe this goof played a role in Stanley Appel's decision in 1991 to make every act sing live.

This decision was always going to be bad - and even more so at a time when acid house was dominating the charts.

Yet he doggedly stuck with it until his retirement in early 1994.

IMHO, the show never fully recovered... :(

I didn't bother with the show tonight but I'll watch Kinky Friedman on the RTE player.

I went straight to The Old Grey Whistle Test. Thanks for the heads-up GSW.

Dont know a huge amount about Glenn Campbell. But i'm happy enough to watch anything in which they call a guitar a git-ar.

Very true. They needed a flexible policy - playing live was fine for some acts, but not all.

I'd love to see TOTP back. Half an hour each week dedicated to whatever's in the charts shouldn't be too much to ask.

It's a good idea, but I think RTE are terrified of having someone good come on and show up Tubs.

They let Miriam and Gay do the Summer shows because are not going to threaten his position (as full time talk show host)
