I am interested in psychiatry speciality.

I would like to know how long does it take in Ireland to become a certified Psychiatrist? In UK its 2 years of foundation years + 6 years of higher training. Is it the same in Ireland?

Is it be even possible to get into psychiatry or is there too much competition these days? And how much salary does a SHO makes/month?

Thanks everyone! Have a great weekend

After internship (1 year) you can apply for a basic specialist training scheme in psych, generally being 4 years of training. After that, you can apply for higher specialist training, which I think (not positive) is usually 3 years. More info here: http://www.irishpsychiatry.ie/Postgrad_Training.aspx

From what I've heard (student, did my psych rotation this year), psych is currently one of the least competitive fields to get into.

I am doing my intersnhip now. So I can apply for BST scheme. The website you gave me is asking for username and password to get more information about BST.
"The website Information on training courses for BST and HST can be found on the College's Virtual Learning Environment - Moodle. Details of how to access Moodle can be found here."

Given it's not a competitive field currently, what are the salaries in psych? for example while doing BST?

    Thank you very much!

The competitiveness of the field has nothing to do with the salary paid. These are all public jobs so there is a scale for year 1 SHO, year 2 SHO, year 1 Reg etc.

Google HSE payscales and it should come up for you. The website has the pre and post 2010 cut payscales.
