    Hi All,
Just a quick question; I have two scrapped cars, which I was breaking for parts, and now I'm looking for the best way to get rid of whats left. I want to sell it for scrap! I have a few batteries and CAT's also.
I know I can just ring one of the numbers on Donedeal, and they'll give me something for it all, but where do they take it after? what do they do to make more money on it. Do I need to disassemble them completely and separate the metals? I'm based in Galway

Ring Galway Metal, they'll take it away. I rang two crowds about my last car, both promised multiple dates they'd be there, agreed fees etc, never showed up.

I've heard that happening! one guy was coming Dublin and paying 100 for and old almera...that's what got me wondering, how does he then make money out of it??

No idea, maybe selling parts out of it, maybe the scrap itself is worth more than he's willing to pay me or you.

I got €135 for an old opel car 2 weeks ago and scrap batteries are making near €600 a ton where we are

Thanks 2pack! Can you tell me: who gives you 600 a ton where you are?and also, did you send in the corsa yourself or was it someone else who collected it?

Probably Abit too far away from you but it was Clearways in Armagh was giving 500stg sterling for batteries a ton, thats about 2-3 weeks ago...
one breakers yard was giving this too so makes you wonder how much profit he is making from them,

I just had a guy from "Cash for Cars" call into my yard to collect 5 scrapped cars. Only to turn around and tell me that the cars are useless to him.
    1. was a project my son got when he was an apprentice it is a Glanza no engine (in it but its in the booth of the car) the gear box was never with the car,
    2. is a 98 Toyota Corolla (the engine was taken out only for another one to be put in) but the job was never finished,
3 is a 00 Fiat Punto intact (Nct not out for another few months) but needs a new engine gasket, powersteering and window wiper pump
4 is a Honda Civic Coupe that was crashed during the black ice two years ago. the engine has been taken out and sold. But the rest of it can be used for parts.
5 is a 97 Opel Astra petrol. I've no idea what was wrong with it.

The reason i was told by the driver is that the toyota's should have had their engines intact in the cars. He said that they were useless to him. As they say.. i am a little pissed over this.

I'd imagine that a general scrapyard would be your best bet, where the cars should get crushed regardless of condition.

Any of those "cash for x" places, whether its cars, gold, phones etc will only be looking for good quality stuff to resell.

They should have stated that in the add they had on the Newspaper.... I swear i was steaming thinking about it. Talk about false advertising...

Dont have "Cats" for sale... and if i had i wouldnt give them to someone i dont know. I've decided that i am going to sell the cars for parts... put them up on carzone or gumtree and see what i get for them...

Scrap makes about €135 a ton in Dublin. It all depends on where you are if you are not near a scrapyard with the price of fuel and running costs you won't get much for scrap. Cats make about €60 alloy wheels about €8 each just my experience. Some people take all the good bits off cars engine, box, alloys, cat, battery and then think that someone is going to drive to them and load a shell of a car and bring it back to a scrapyard and still give them some money :-) my advice to you is take the good bits off and see can you get someone to take the scrap bits left for free. When the price of steel is low plenty of people have to pay to get their old cars taken away. One of my mates drives a tow truck so this is what he tells me I recon its hard for people to make a few quid the scrapyards are making a "fortune" I hear :-)

Ok.. i think i'm getting my wires crossed here.... what are "Cats"? i thought you were refferring to real cats.
The Punto has everything all it needs is a new head gasket, window wiper connection (the motor works fine its just the little fitting that holds the wiper arm and the wiper blade arm together that dissapeared).
The 98 toyota corolla needs an engine but we have that. What we didnt have is a lift to lift the engine in. The thing is we actually havent sold anything out of any car, all the parts are there only to be put back together again.

I am not surprised that the scrap yards are making a fortune. One of the guys from the main scrap yard in Limerick called to see what i had yesterday and he was driving a big 4x4 a giant of a thing...

If all the parts are there that's a different story. If you have the logbooks why don't you try to sell them on adverts or donedeal particularly if they are rolling you should get something reasonable for them then (€150) or so ? Each.

Update on the "Scrap Cars". I sold my Punto for €100, my son sold his cars for €550 in total we made €650 way more than what the other guy's said and the guy's that picked up the cars said that they were going to fix up the Punto and Toyota and re sell them. I dont care the whole lot are gone. And the guys that bought them were very nice...So Big Davey you were right to give me great advice. Thank you very much, it is much appreciated.
