    Hi,

I've a had a few bad experiences with my current vet of 12 years and would like to change to another vet. I won't name and shame but they have gone downhill, they have become more money hungry and less concerned about the care of the animals. We had to put our loving family member of 12 years to sleep last year and they made the whole ordeal terrible and the last straw was the fact that they got our cremation order wrong(we wanted a certain casket) and they didn't even apologize, they just wanted the money and for us to get the hell out.

Can anyone recommend a good vet who still cares about the animals welfare? i've heard good things about Bairbre O'Malley Vet Hospital and Brayvets, anyone ever use them?

I use Terenure vets/Dundrum vets. They are amazing I have been with them 5 years and wouldn't change so caring and do alot of work with rescues.

I go to Bairbre with my rabbits and mice, she's fantastic with them anyway! Saved my mousey's life on one occasion.

Heard good things about Brayvet also.

I go to Bairbre O' Malley in Bray and I live in Stoneybatter!! The vets and staff in that centre are wonderful - to my pets and to me!! I recommend them 100%.

If you don't mind travelling, I can definitely recommend Beaufield Veterinary Centre in Celbridge. With them, the care of the animal is far more important than the money and they are incredibly good vets. They have patients that travel from as far away as west of the Shannon because they are so good.

I could recommend a few but my top practice in South County Dublin would be Nutgrove Vets, Rathfarnham.

We have been using these guys for a good few years now they are great with the dogs and genuinely seem to care for their welfare, never rush us in and out and always ask how our other dogs(&family) are getting on . When our last old dog got ill they gave her great care and were very good when her time came . Their kindness will never be forgotten in this house. Thanks Guys :)

Hi my Mum uses Cherrywood Vet beside the Silver Tassie in Loughlinstown. Can't recommend them highly enough - he saved my Mums dogs life when she was suffering from severe pancreatitis & kidney failure - that was a month ago over Easter & he phoned my Mum every day to see how the dog was over the bank holiday - brilliant ongoing follow up still going on

We have brought our parot to Bairbre in Bray and can't fault her or her staff. They gave us useful phone advice for free first, after closing time. They were also happy to give free advice about our other pets. I'm not emphasising the freebies, I'm trying to say that they seem to be about the animals and not the €s.

Thank you all for the replies, I really appreciate it :)

Difficult choice indeed and i will check out all of your suggestions. Its very difficult to know which vet to choose.

I've used cherrywood vets back in the day when we had a few cats as we live nearby. Reason we are with our current vet was because of them. Stopped after our cat of 10 years was given back to us in a black bag with the needle still hanging out of her arm like trash. I understand the black bag for health and safety reasons but the needle still in her precious arm was a slap in our faces. Maybe they have changed as it was over 12 years ago though :)

When one of my pet mice had to be put to sleep, the vet in Bairbre O'Malley's gave her back to me in her carrier carefully arranged in cotton wool, like a little bed. They then sent me a condolences card.
And that was for a mouse!
(She was a very special mouse, but still)

Oh my god OP, that's awful. There's just no excuse for it. How heartless and thoughtless. I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

I'd highly recommend blacklion vets in greystones. Our 15 year old terrier went into liver failure a few months ago, and they went above and beyond their call of duty to help him, making themselves available 24/7, opening on a sunday to give him treatment and even collecting him from our house. Thanks to their fantastic care our little fella is doing better than ever.

+1. I have to admit, my jaw hit the floor when I read your description of what had happened thezappa. Dreadfully insensitive.

The family tortoise went to bairbre in Bray as she specialises in reptiles I think. They found her very good.

+1 for Primrose in Dun Laoghaire we've always used them and find them fantastic only there today with the dog and never a problem getting an appointment at short notice. Also the vet that owns it is a very good ophthalmologist and there would often be people from all over the country with their pets to get the eyes treated.
