    Hi,

Has anybody experience of how the process works when somebody is forced to move from private health insurance to public? Parents have just been approved for medical card because of age (recently retired) and insurance renewal has come through at a ridiculous price making it no longer an affordable option.

Is it simply the case that any existing files are passed over to the HSE? And that where a consultant works in both private and public, they may see consultant's team member as opposed to consultant?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    D.

    no files change ownership.
The public system just means long waits to see a consultant.
My son had to see an ent. Public system was minimum 18 months. Private was week.

Can they go on a cheaper plan.check out hia.ie to compare plans.

1st question would be: for their current conditions are they seeing a consultant privately in a public hospital or in a private hospital. If it's the later it's fairly straightforward and the records are the same etc.
