Liability at work

Posting this for a friend - genuinely Guy I know was on trip down the country with something sponsored by work (but was on a weekend)....accommodation etc. paid for by work, although it was a social event. Another guy ended up falling over him and broke his leg later that night. Does the company have liability?

It depends, if this incident took place during the course of a work related event, training, conference, company party etc. Then they might be. However, if it happened during some pub crawl arranged by yourselves after the work related events, then probably not. See below:
