Looking for recommendations for a budget classic that would be easy to sell on again ? Budget 1-3k.

Ideally with the cheap motor tax or close to it, and something that can be used as a daily driver.

Is it worth going to the UK for one ?

Also how hard is it for budget classics newer than 1980 to pass the NCT ?

    Cheers, Albert.

What kind of mileage, and how handy are you with spanners and that?

Max 2-4k miles, bit of spannering expected the odd time, but don't have much spare time for it. I'd rather someone else had spent their time and money on it before me.

Looking for something to keep for 6 months or so and sell on again when the novelty has wore off, the oil stain appears on the drive, and the missus starts nagging.

Willing to forgo the cheap tax if needs be to get a better all rounder that can be sold again.

I realise you can't have it everyway. :)

I am in a similar position. I'll be looking for a BMW e30. If you decide to go down this route I'd recommend a 318is or if you don't mind a big engine, 325. (sport if possible) The 325 might stretch the budget but theres nothing wrong with a 318is and pretty simple to fix anything on them.

Agree with the above, but maybe a Porsche 924?

Or what about a convertible it being summer;)

Triumph Spitfire perhaps, 1.6l convertible. Personal preference to be honest, I have very little knowledge on them or how easy they would be to sell. I always liked them

Seeing as you posted the vw golf, take a look at this:

In budget and she looks clean enough.

Yep, I like that, late 80's early 90's Beemer or VW might be the way to go.

    Don't laugh, but I also have a fetish for Mk2 Fiestas (Not XR2's) :)

If you can find a rust free one for 1 - 3k you'll be lucky . Tax will be expensive and so will fuel consumption but if if you only do a few thousand miles a year who cares. Reselling wouldn't be a doddle either 318is unmodified and no rust would be your best bet if going down the e30 route but rare as hens teeth in unmolested form.

    What do you mean ?

Start with the best if you can and keep up there in Merc land - I reckon a W124 is an easier car to keep in top condition than any others ;)
