    approx 200 k
    approx 4.4k climbing
    approx 11 on the hurtometer

i think 11 started last year.

@ rok on - im budgeting about 10 - 12 hours including stops. Its all about pacing yerself chef.

When I asked about No's I wasn't v.clear... what I had meant was do you have approx numbers of interested persons ? I d say from d chatter at the MB200 (which was fantastic) last wend that this has gained momentum from last yr....wondering if this is d case or just chatter..lol ?
It also occured to me that if numbers are very small and some are defo interested in doing 100km as seems d case from reading thread then perhaps some of those doing 100 might consider having some extra time in bed then doing d 2nd 100 as opposed the 1st as would be nice to have company for 2nd half. I did 3500m climb on mtb in spain last mth over approx 110k and while it was enjoyable it would have been more so to have company in last few hours when I was tiring of my own company.
Just a thought...I m planning to be there either way....bar monsoon rain or family emergency !

I think you are over analysing this. It is unorganised. It doesn't matter how many people do it. It's a group of people going on a cycle that will for those that complete all of it look something like the route in Astras map.

It is an open event - everyone is entitled to do this. There are nonfees or requirements.
You can go as fast or as slow as you like. You can do as much PR as little as you like.
Really it's just a boards spin in Wicklow with absolutely nothing planned.
Come along and enjoy it until it stops being enjoyable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

I'm doing my own cycle on this day which just happens to be on the exact same route and starting at the same time.

I was trainng for my own version of it by doing 2hours in North Co Dublin. That should set me up nicely for this spin in Wicklow :-)

Thanks for ur reply ROK ON...I have read d threads so already know it is open non fee paying and not about big numbers ect. I simply wanted to know if anyone knew how many people were interested in doing it ? my 2nd point was just an idea I had ...good bad or indifferent ! Look forward to c u there ! Dave

So have we confirmed a start time? 0800 like last year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭AstraMonti

Yeah 8am sounds like a plan.

Just back from North Yorkshire. Some of those climbs would have the Wall wetting its pants!

At least in the UK they show what percentage the gradient is, usually you'll see the sign just after you've sweated up it. I've done 25% and one 33% (ok I walked some of that last one).

    Did you do the Chimney?

I've heard of that. Must be tough

It's short but steeper than is sane to contemplate. I got halfway and stopped. Stopping is very very bad because its fiendishly difficult to get going again.
    Made it up, just.

I've checked Strava, and for the record NamelessPhil did it on a Hybrid. Be afraid. :-)

Looking forward to Saturday. I've a 27 now so it's gonna be a breeze. Right?

Good article, some cracking climbs there. It's insane how many 25%+ roads there are. I don't think I've done anything in the Alpes over 14-15%.

Only one on the list I've done is Bushcombe Lane which dismounted me on the first 3 attempts. It became one of my cycling goals to climb it and was very chuffed when I finally did, I felt like I'd stepped up a level. Devil's Staircase in Brecon Beacons is also tough but not as hard as the Full Wall.

I have a morbid curiosity as to how I'd fare on the Full Wall if we did it towards the end of The Angle of Evil.

Watch out for NamelessPhil on the Evil. Met her a few hours ago powering up the Wall (Phil not me). I was heading home via the Gap but she was doing a 200k recce taking in climbs I'd only heard of.
Good luck to you all on Saturday. Thankfully it is still well out of my league!

I'm back from said recce, bleurgh! http://app.strava.com/activities/57948774

I'm tempted to send doozerie as my proxy next weekend. Nice meeting you Mercian Pro, I hope your chain was ok.

No real problem with the chain - I have it set to pop off when ever I need a breather! Thanks for the encouragement on the Wall and well done today. Hopefully you all get the same weather on Saturday.

Vicious, nasty, punishing little route little route that, and still you sped over Glanmacnass! I'll be wimping out next weekend and doing the WW200. What a mean spirited site the 410 has become that the WW200 is now 'taking the easy option' ;)

One thing I don't get based on the map. We meet up in Dundrum but finish on Stocking Lane. I assume there are buses etc to transport us back to the starting point?

Aircon? Gives me a chest cough. Could I instead ask for fans made from peacock feathers, maybe some non-tapwater ice and some chilled towels. Do we get our own personal chefs to come along or simply send the ingredients lists to Astra?

much easier for me to shed it than the bike into the 15 stone something bracket for the first time since my age was 15

    Dress Code?

Boards Jersey if you have one. Otherwise plan accordingly.

Raam may disqualify you without warning for being badly turned out.

If I see any sign of business socks or neoprene overshoes, there will be words.

Can I make a heartfelt plea that folks match jerseys and shorts. Also, armwarmers if necesssary should match the jersey.
Socks are a different (and controversial) issue. I think that socks should match either the kit or the shoes. In my book either is fine (both are a definite bonus). So black socks are acceptable, if you have black kit and shoes.

Finally, if people could make the effort to shave and embrocaate it would be much appreciated.

This man knows his kit coordination, take note:

    Jebus,

matching kits, select policy on shoes/socks combo, matching armwarmers, shaving and embroacation. A ban on overshoes! Seems to me it would be easier to organise the W200.

Does an all Lidl kit count as matching? I'll even shave with one of their razors if that makes you guys happier!

LOL Dirk you 're just evil, just in the spirit of the thread.

So, 7:45am meeting under the dundrum bridge. 8am sharp we're leaving. We 're finishing in stocking lane so everyone can go where the hell likes after that. You ll have enough kms on your legs by that point, it's not like hot food will wait for you under the bridge.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

    Dirk

That climb is still etched into mine.
