Great event/promotion/race once again by Wav1, Drogheda Wheelers and assorted friends.

Super sense of speed blasting down the big road with a tailwind making you feel like a hero and then a bit of a cross wind lining it out just like they get on the telly.

My friend came out for his first race and had a blast, so compliments to all concerned, including his fellow racers.

Delighted for young Wav (Wav 0.5?) on the win.

I was sure, soooo sure, that that last break of 5 would stay clear, we were mostly working well together but suffered a bit into the final headwind. I didn't give a fiddlers about winning, points are points but sadly we were swallowed up with a km to go, also just like the telly:)
    Still, always fun to try!

Thanks to all who came today, both to compete and to help.About 5 or 6 clubs helping out today.A really combined effort from grassroots crew who just love the sport.Sad to see how the calender has panned out for the next few weeks but I hope to address that somewhat in the next few days.Watch this space.Delighted for Ciaran and Daragh in the pots again after a tough family week. Now im in ras duty next week and i cant wait.Packing the bags for the 36th time.Honestly still as in love with this sport as when i was 16.See ye all soon and thanks again.Great to see buffalo back in the saddle and achieving the upgrade.

Great race set up and a great circuit. Nice and safe. My first A3 race of the year and a good bunch it was. Good clean riding. Well, for what I saw of it. Punctured out in the second lap. Just when I was beginning to warm up too, after a hounds-of-hell start.

I tell ya, I've often had lads query my carrying of a pump and tube for races. -I was frickin' glad of 'em today. 'Twould've been a long walk back to Dunsaney for me.

My first outing in A3, the slight increase in pace was manageable but unfortunately I punctured out on the second lap. I guess the measure of a good event is that I can't think of anything to complain about!

Weather wasn't great but in the heat of battle a few drops of rain is the last thing you think of! Speed on the main road was savage, think I clocked 68kmph, great buzz!

    Thanks to all the organisers!

    Speaking of motorbikes....

I stood at the side of the finish and was impressed with the winner's finishing kick; well done indeed, yet another Junior lad on the up. I enjoyed the race, or at least the bit I did. I was recovering from an injury and took this race as a chance to get going again - so just 3 laps for me and an early bath. 42kmh+ on lap one and it didn't relent a whole lot after that but I was happy enough. A really well-run race and well done to Wav1 and his merry men (and women - and children too!!). I have some video footage of the finish but I'm having trouble posting it but it is quite impressive to watch.

I'm cycling 5 years and first year in A3 - for those more experienced riders, is it worth asking if the standard at cat.3 was always this good? I think the racing is fantastic - good, hard, fast competitive stuff and little sandbagging or dangerous riding from what I can see.

How d'you know how hard it is in the ladies race!!? Dressing up in cycling drag again Lenny? I was looking for you yesterday but couldn't find you...hope the shoulder improves. Consider a doctor as well as physio...you may need more than a rub.

Given the amount of fellas who hopped into the ladies bunch after they'd been dropped from their own, I'd say there's now plenty lads who now how hard it is in the ladies race.

I think it was Ros an Loais where I heard an organiser (or maybe it was one of the ladies riding) saying that a few lads joined in there as well and disrupted their progress, they were either in a break or chasing a break I'm not sure. Absolutely shameful to interfere with another race.

Fun, well organised race. I asked in the week before if position into the final corner was key, and it was pretty much defined the race. As it happens, I was just too far back. Maybe 25th rider, maybe as far back as 30. I was annoyed because the finish suited me, I got my gearing right and was sailing past people and reeling them in ahead of me, but I ran out of road. At the finish counted roughly 12 riders ahead of me. So finished slightly mad with myself that I didn't get further up for the crucial turn.

All in all, though, lots of fun. A bird sh*t on me in the first 2k but after that things improved. Hitting 60+ kph on the open road section and the peleton being strung out in a single line was certainly a treat and in spite of the conditions, it all felt pretty safe, I didn't see any mental riding. Great stuff.

Very safe/steady riding. I guess it was that bit faster than normal and so fellas had to concentrate more.

Also I'd echo what everybody else said...super race and very well organised. I am so grateful to all the heads that got together and put on this race, I'll deffo be back next year.
Oh...I got to meet wav1 for the first time too, a gentleman on and off boards!!

Having raced at various stages throughout the past, I think the standard has definitely gone up... certianly compared to say the C cat of a number of years ago. There are more riders, better equipment, more science, etc & with the elite juniors being nurtured especially this year in specific & dedicated development teams the standard has just gone up again.

Any luck with that video? Would love to get a look at mini-wav, and the A4 finish if you have it.

The average speed of the Dunsany bunch last year was 40.1kph and this year 40.9kph.

I think the windage was roughly similar, Strava doesn't have it for me :)

The juniors have raised the bar in general terms in A3 racing this season (which is all good by the way)

On a flat course like Dunsany the juniors are slightly nullified by their restricted gearing. we passed one of them along that fast back straight heading for the roundies, he was simply out of gears at 63kph. The same fella dances away on hills.

Have to agree about the standard being better this year, I think a lot of its down to the juniors. I remember back in the late eighties starting as a junior, and used to be awe of other juniors who would be in the mix with some of the top senior riders of the time. So its not really surprising, in fact I think the racing with juniors this year is great even if I'm finding it hard.
