Rumour has it that there will be a jobs announcement for Waterford today. Good news if true. Any jobs are welcome but sadly there will probably be the usual moaners protesting and complaining.

    Lets see what happens.

10 new jobs are being created at a Waterford-based Pharmaceutical Stability Storage business.Q1 Scientific, is the first company in Ireland to specialise in the provision of Stability storagewhich is an essential requirement for both R&D and finished products within the sector.Minister for State John Perry is to attend the launch of the company this afternoon.CEO, Louise Grubb said their purpose-built facility in Waterford offers state-of-the-art storage to clients, far exceeding the strict international registration standards demanded by the production of pharmaceutical and medical devices.

2k jobs over five years at Belview Port thanks to Glanbia. 450 of those in construction. Supported by the government and Enterprise Ireland.

Funny, Boards and Facebook is awful quiet about this. Suppose positive news isn't good news for the moaners who just want to complain all the time.

Great news anyway, even if its spread out over five years. Between this, the last major announcement on jobs and the smaller jobs being created every week will really help Waterford get back on its feet and fight firmly to get the economy back on track for Waterford. More to come please and thank you.

Perhaps you didn't get the talking points from HQ yet? :) The cabinet meeting has been adjourned until 1700 and there are some disagreements. Things are looking a bit dicey.

Never mind Boards/FB/Twitter this doesnt seem to making much news on national websites. I couldnt see anything on RTE or the Independent although the IT did have a piece. Nothing on WLR also.

EDIT a search on news.google.com shows just 4 websites reporting it

    https://www.google.com/news?ncl=drfACMXlUctukzM1hdTmQEpikQOYM&q=glanbia&lr=English&hl=en

IT, Newstalk, Kikenny People and businessandleadership.com

    Perhaps people arent aware?

One as to ask why the likes of WLR are not all over this story?

I should say this is indeed great news, its just a pity these sort of announcements always induce petty swipes and comments from the pro or anti govt supporters on here.

The abortion issue has nothing to do with the jobs announcement.

    Absolutely agree 100%.

Its really strange it hasnt been picked up nationally more. Most of the sites are going with a 1K roads jobs announcement

wasnt q1 scientific and glanbia announced months ago. great to see a start up like Q1 doing well locally but is this same jobs being announced twice. 1600 jobs in glanbia is positive alright but lets be serious, its really 76 jobs and 450 during construction. To say over 1000 indirect jobs will be created is plain lies.

Good to hear something positive happening.

How long will construction last? Couple of years? that is worth quitems a few quid to the region

In fairness the press release announcing this news was only sent to the media this afternoon. I know this development was in the pipeline for at least a year, but obviously today the official announcement is being made now that construction begins in a few weeks' time.

Sully, seriously - give it a rest will ya? People are quite entitled to "moan" as you put it given the current economic climate and circumstances. We get it. You love FG. Get over it.

Please, take the tinfoil hat off for a moment and point me to the post where I said people were not entitled to moan?

My point is that you and a select few others on Boards would have gone absolutely crazy if this was an announcement about jobs being lost. But, because its yet again another positive news story (regardless of how many jobs created) you stay silent. You can't seem to give credit where credit is due, or at the very least, congratulate the business and the people of Waterford on news that more people will be taken off the unemployment list and there will be that little bit more money brought into our local economy as a result.

Waterford has struggled and we are an unemployment black spot. Your quick to point this out. But your not as quick to point out the good news and try break away from the doom and gloom that surrounds you.

This is absolutely fantastic news for Waterford. Its been in the pipeline, its been announced and discussed in the past a little but its official - planning etc has been approved and work begins shortly.

Tinfoil hats! LOL! As opposed to FG blinkers?:D The only "select few" Sully are those who are brainwashed by party political ideology and gombeenism. Credit where credit is due? Is this the same company that closed the Kilmeaden and Glenville plants? Well?

At last - you are beginning to wake up! You actually give a hint that you are starting to appreciate what's going on around YOU!

Waterford is not just an unemployment blackspot. Ignored by Government, "represented" by three TDs that seem to become more mute on issues affecting the City as time progresses, a Regional Hospital being dismantled, along with a City Council being dismantled, while being cheerled by their supporters AND LOCAL POLITICAL "REPRESENTATIVES".

Come to think of it - doom and gloom doesn't even begin to cover it. And I forgot to mention THIS.

This has been flagged for two years . It is a drying plant for milk with an eye to the lifting of milk quotas in2015. And exporting milk in powder form to the far east where the market for dairy producys is growing rapidly.
It is great news and will bring big job numbers in trucking etc when up andrunning.
Another even bigger project that will hit the news very soon is the new sugar/chp plant costing 400 hundred million the site to be eitger belview or the old lisheen mine on the m9.
These big projects are known about just people dont read the right papers.

Have you got any details or a link with some info on that CHP plant by any chance?

Its been mentioned before I believe in the media, so its not 'new' news but its a proper style announcement today which is broadly welcomed by reasonable people who want to see Waterford do well.

Lets cross our fingers and toes that this is the start of many more jobs in and around Waterford - City or County. Small jobs don't hit the papers unless its negative, but there are many small positives to Waterford making one large positive in addition to these larger job announcements.

A welcomed boost to the construction industry also!

They're on about 20 to 40 jobs in the factory, obviously it will be very automated and little to non general operatives required.

The thousand other jobs will be indirect, such as the dairy sector etc.
