Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey guys just wondering can redundant apprentices from Ireland continue on there apprenticeships in new zealand?
i no obviously it would not be counted by fas but could one get there hours and weeks transferred over and continue on in the new zealand apprenticeship system or would you have to be a PR?
Has anyone every heard of it happening as i am sure there would be a mass arrival of skilled redundant apprentices arriving in Christchurch in such a sitution. Thanks in advance:)

Why would it need to be counted by Fas? Fas don't operate in NZ. They barely operate here...

As I pointed out on another forum, the TRB was abolished a long time ago. There is no one "board" any more, there are industry training organisations which manage the apprenticeships process for their industry.

Recognition of overseas qualifications is done by NZQA. I suspect they will assess the courses you have done, even if you don't have an apprenticeship completed. More info here: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/international-qualifications/

Links to the two routes to becoming an electrician / electrical-supply worker are here: http://www.careers.govt.nz/jobs/construction/electrician/how-to-enter-the-job

One thing I couldn't work out from the sites is what provisions apply for people who are too old for the Modern Apprentice scheme - but I'm sure there must be an option for them.

However - you would need to become a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident before getting an apprenticeship: NZ has plenty of its own young people to choose from, before taking trainees from the EU. (Note that the EU is not particularly facilitating for people from NZ either).

You might be better of in the UK, or elsewhere in the EEA, to be honest.
