    English - B
    Maths - A
    Irish - B/A (Leaning towards B)
    History - A
    Geography - A
    Religion - A
    Business - A
    Art - A
    CSPE - A (lol)
    Science - A
German - A (Got a B in the first mock but an A in the second)

This is basically my mock results repeated.

....How did you get like 8 As in the mocks??? That's pretty impressive! What did you do for art? I'm fairly hopeless at it but I felt that my project was good enough for a B!

    English-C
    Maths-B
    Science-A
    Geog-A
    History-B
    Business-B
    Wood-B
    Metal-B/C
    German-C
    Italian-C
    Cspe-A
Would be fairly happy with them knowing the fact I did **** the whole year, oh well onto the LC ;)

Tbh I'm still confused on how I attained a C in Irish, my teacher said that i got 37% in the paper and my marks were raised up to a 59% because of my orals. Basically my orals saved me.

    ORALS??? THERE ARE IRISH ORALS???

That would be a good result! All honours!

Yeah I do all honours but I wanted to at least get 4As :(

Same, this is what I want:

    English A
    Maths B
    German A
Irish C (would be happy with a D)
    Science B/A
    Religion B/A
    Business A
    CSPE A
    Geography C
    History B/A

    So I would love 7 A's, but I'd be happy with 3/4.

There's an option to do Irish orals.
There are also options for project work in other subjects like History and Geography but hardly any schools take them up.

Wow. Are the projects any good or are they similar to the Religion and CSPE ones?

I have a good memory, it has served me well over the last three years haha

I done ''A closer look at''

I did the Geography one myself back in 1978, that's how long the option has been there. I did mine on Sweden and the Gota Canal. I can still remember lots of detail. It was probably about OL LC standard in today's terms.

I wouldn't consider the Religion and CSPE projects to be good projects. they are too restrictive. I much prefer the Field Study and Research Projects in Environmental and Social Studies (ESS), which I believe is more what the 'new' new JC History and Geography project work will be modelled on.

And was there a point system at that time or how did it work
I see your a teacher, was it easy at that time or harder to get into good jobs? e.g. teaching, medical, business, engineering etc.

Yes there was a points system. I think it was 5 points for a HL A, 4 for a B, 3 for a C - 7 for an A in HL Maths, 6 for a B in HL Maths etc. It was a long time ago, so I might be a bit out on my figures.

24/25 would have got Medicine in Dublin. Of course there were fees too, so it didn't matter how smart you were, your parents had to pay the fees. It's why in my family's case, the 3rd child, despite being the brightest of us, couldn't go to college as my father who earned £45 a week as a teacher couldn't afford the fees for a third child in college.

There was a recession in the 80s too and many of my classmates emigrated, but the jobs that were there in teaching at that time were proper full time jobs, not like now where people are stuck on maybe 6 hours teaching a week for years.

Then why did they increase the numbers to 100 and 90s why not leave it to 1 digit number

I don't know. I can't really remember when the system changed. I suppose there are much more college places now and with the introduction of 'free' fees more people were availing of college places - it might have had something to do with that.

By the way, mind me asking, What do you teach??
And are you an examiner as well ?? Will you be correcting any JC'S ??

I teach a few things - at the moment I teach Environmental and Social Studies (ESS) to Junior Cert. and the IT specialism to LCA.

I have corrected History for JC (and Inter Cert. and Group cert before that) in the past, but I now monitor the marking of Junior Cert. ESS project work, so I will be travelling to schools to either correct projects or double check the correcting that has gone on locally. It will take up most of June.

Schools often put me to correct in the room with the Metalwork and Woodwork projects, so I may well admire your creation, but not mark it.

Our school does not offer Enviromental and Social studies, a pity though :o

The CSPE project is a joke. I wasn't even in for our guest speaker, and I was the 7th member of the questions commitee, who had to write questions for the class to ask the speaker! I did almost nothing, and still got an A on my mock action project.

I liked the religion one though, and I actually learned stuff about Muhammad. It was a bit tedious though, and really repetitive in some areas.

If you're female, you've a 30% chance of an A in CSPE. About 15% of males get an A.

Oh that suits me then! Are examiners only allowed to give out a certain no of A's even for CSPE?

No, that's roughly how they fall every year in the stats. It's higher than most subjects, but not the easy A everyone seems to think.
