Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

3 - 4 day break in Ireland with toddler and teenager

Looking to take a 3 - 4 day break sometime over the summer in the top half of the country. Will have a 4-year-old and a 16-year old and wondering how to keep both happy. The eldest would be happiest near loads and loads of shops, the youngest would just need a playground and somewhere reasonably quiet, a city might be a bit tiring. Wondering if both could be done from the one place.

    feck it, go to Belfast
Hotels are cheap and theres no lack of (clothes) shopping there all nice and compact downtown.
Send the teenager off on their own and you can mellow out in a playground somewhere.

Theres 79 of them in Belfast all listed here:

Not sure if your 4 year old is very inquisitive, but you could also visit the Ulster Museum which is free into. Its beside botanic gardens so he/she could run about there safely before or after then too.

You can hop on the train to the seaside maybe too? Day trip to giants causeway? Ulster folk park at cultra? Belfast zoo?
Theres loads to keep you occupied so there is.

Regarding hotels, Holiday inn express is great value and they have rooms suitable for a family with double bed and convertable sofa.

We stayed there before and found it grand. There is an enclosed carpark and breakfast is included in the price so it ticks every box.

BTW (tangent alert!!) theres that amount of playgrounds there as the city council can afford to provide them as a consequence of the lovely folks of Belfast paying their property tax.
In Munich theres 709 playgrounds for the same population as Dublin (which has a fraction of the facilities) also as a consequence of folks paying their local taxes.
Just saying ahead of time in case you come back from Belfast wondering why the streets are so clean and in general everything in great nick. Folks paying a grand per house per year in council tax would be the reason. Still, no reason not to head up there and enjoy the facilities!
