Builder is taking the piss, demolition of a wall, FFS. You're on site already, people are standing around, so knock the fcuking wall, geez . You don't charge for that.

    Builder is a raging cnut

Builder causing a fuss because he's trying to throw this up.

Seems a very hard man to work with because he only has one thing on his mind, and that's getting out of there as quick as possible

Her shaved had should have given it away that her style would lean towards graffiti and industrial.
No harm in it, but definitely not for me. A home should look like a home - not a deserted railway halt in the wrong side of town.

All these costs should be known and not a shock invoice

Yea. I know a few couples like them. One serious and grounded. One arty and quirky. Seems to work.

doesnt work like that. if its not in the contract it cost money

    Builders a bollix

He set them up! He knew what he was doing for those extras.

Most builders I work with won’t **** without getting sign off before doing anything as arbitration/disputes resolution is difficult/expensive!

    Who ok'd the extras?

It's a mixture e.g. Builder told him of the door needed blocking up, he said ok. There was obviously going to be a cost involved. Commication not very good between them. I wouldn't mind seeing the list that brought it upto 20k.
To be honest, the builder didn't come out of that too well.

That catfight was tool vs tool.
I feel so sorry, yer man the client looked mortified and close to tears.

I like what they already did up in the house honestly, but to be fair it's exactly my style and I'm thinking of shaving and undercut again.

Needed to sign a contract for a fixed price.

they have a fixed contract. any changes cost more money

What stops builders saying “ I can do that but it costs” when something new is asked for. And how much for knocking a wall. Can’t take that much.

Yup, must get the kids coder dojo-ing asap

Web designer and it manager wouldn't earn enough to put 800k into a house... Must have money from elsewhere

The Celtic Tiger is back in full force with that lad. Throw it up, it will be bought anyway and fcuk quality.

He complains on one hand of down time for people on site, then charges for knocking a wall, not on.
I'm sure his men are on a fixed wage, and they should knock a wall when asked, was no need to charge anyone for it.

Think the graffiti on back wall is a great idea. If personalised for the owners it's brilliant. Can always be painted over in a few years if they want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭Essien

The best thing about him sticking his name and logo all over the house is that anyone who sees this will remember to run a mile from him in future.

Shouldn't any doors be part of the plan so known in advance

You'd be reluctant to hire that builder if you're watching this.

    Seems difficult to work with.

Very single minded and the work is flying up but he seems like a right PITA.

They've been in London for the last 12 years I think.

But to be fair, they paid some outrageous money for an so-so house in Killester, fcuk me.

They lived abroad. Probably sold a house there.

I would be raging...no way in hell he would be getting the extra 20 if he went Rogue on what was agreed...surely all that extra work he claims needed doing should have been in the original agreement.
Surely the builders knew the wall needed knocking and the doorway blocked up, why wasn’t it added to the agreement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,200 ✭✭✭jos28

I think this is the first time we have given out about the builder

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,368 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

    Stood down, closed site.
    What a dick head

Not a good advertisement for this builder at all. What numpty would carry out extra work and charge for it without the customer signing off on it?

Totally. If I was passing that house there’s no way I’d think fairly well off people live there.
