Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A sunken couch. It's the kind of thing that Hugh Hefner would have.

Have to say that I only watch the beginning and the end of this show.

Get the layout, see what they want, and then see the MARVELLOUS transformation that could never ever happen, over budget, rows, tears, madness.

I'm happy to miss all the stuff in the middle!

The end results are always fab though aren't they?

I seem to remember someone who knew this couple posting when this originally aired saying the end results were far from fab, they were left trying to sort out the issues long after the camera left. Watching a second time I really feel sorry for them. I know they decided to go without Patricia's services and let themselves be influenced by the 'builder'.
But with the half window, I suppose I can't blame them doubting Dermot's advice!

Oh that builder really is an odious little upstart

Dermot gibbering, and looking a tad cornered.

Oh that window would wreck my head

Doesn't the builder mysteriously disappear before the end of the build?

Actually watching again, I suspect the half window incident was partially down to the builder
I'm sure he spotted it wasn't going to work with the new stairs, but purposely went ahead so as to undermine Dermot.

If I was Dermot I'd slap that builder over the head

Yes, and I think the baby that is due was not newborn when they filmed the after scenes

Dermot really was out of order with that window debacle.

Customers obviously seriously unhappy with it (although not willing to clearly say so, which I'd fault them a small bit for), and he just keeps saying "Well I think it works" in a slightly high-pitched voice which CLEARLY sounds like he's lying through his teeth.

    Oh, f*** off Jamie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

What exactly was stopping them from sawing out another foot on top so the window was even? Was it load bearing or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,262 ✭✭✭✭Autosport

I like the way they blame each other Jamie v Dermot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,516 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Did it transfer so abruptly to the finished product last time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,262 ✭✭✭✭Autosport

Do not like the wooden structure around the window

    It did, yeah.

Also, your other post, #2684, after several month's remove, it sure looks like Dermot was BSing like a good 'un.

Cost, I think, €800-€1000 was mentioned.

Thats what I thought aswell, you'd think they'd know someone between them that could do it for free, 3 cuts with one of those big angle grindrer looking things and a bit of chiseling...

It would still have looked stupid IMO, even if they had evened it up a bit.

It was still a window with a landing running halfway across in front of it - to have even half a chance of redeeming the situation they'd have had to fill it in so that there was a frame above and below the landing.

But a window belongs in the middle of a wall, not on the floor/attached to the ceiliing.

Monumental fail on all parts there I'm afraid.

I'd have completely blown a gasket if it were my house. (although maybe being days from giving birth to your first child might put things into perspective a bit!)

Nothing whatsoever wrong with the window running past the floor. The are various ways to finish it but leaving the window with such a silly small amount over the landing is wrong pure and simple. I couldn't believe that Dermot was even arguing the fact.
Drop it down or open it up further imo.

These are repeats, the new series starts in early 2016.

Have you tried the International Player? (why does RTE hate Android?)

    http://www.rte.ie/playerinternational/

Otherwise its the usual proxy + regular player app.
