Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maybe Im looking for some comfort, but 'King' Kenny had a few stints - if finding a suitable, longterm manager proves difficult could Fergie come back? Health permitting?

    No thanks.

He should stay gone. What you are talking about here is actual turmoil.

Get someone in, give them 5 years and keep them for 5 years - no knee jerk sacking, no Ferguson looming in the background, allow the new man to build his own legacy.

There's only one person who will be available and fits that description.

I think Mourinho to ManU will be a brilliant move.

Name one other manager in the world that is half way available that could come in and do a better job than Jose. For me he has to be No. 1 on the list and then followed by Klopp.

Mourinho would be a short term fix, everyone knows that.

RE: Jose as a short term fix...

It's going to be a tough job filling Fergie's shoes. Jose has the ego and ability to take up that task. If he goes in a few years, he'll be easier to replace that Fergie. From the club's standpoint, that's a better long term plan than simply removing Fergie and appointing, say, Moyes or Ole. And in the few years, we're more likely to keep up our winning ways.

Wow, hard to believe he will be leaving. Delighted to see him leave on top though. Fitting end to an astonishing career.

he has said that he eventually wants to emulate Ferguson and build a legacy somewhere.

He's won titles and CLs with loads of clubs now, he might just want to settle down into a job for years.

I was listening to Newstalk radio this morning and Crerand was on and completely lambasted the presenter for even considering these rumours. He absolutely hopped off him, asking does he believe anything he hears, and completely disagreed with any of the rumours. That was about an hour and a half ago.

Guess he's feeling a bit sheepish now :D

The League will be far more interesting next year. He was a great man and a power in the football world, but he really was all that made that team successful. I really think they'll fall apart without him.
    Bring on next season :D:D:D

Never gave Dave Whelan much credit (for obvious reasons), but seems he was right about this.

Doesn't Jose have a massive buyout clause in his contract at Real? Something like €30 million I've heard.

Would the Glazers spend that much on a Manager?

After enjoying unprecedented success due to managerial stability you want a manager who seems unable to settle? I'd admit that he would offer a great stepping-stone to the next long term manager though.

José Mourinho raises stakes in his Real Madrid exit strategy
    • Mourinho threatens to stay unless settlement agreed

if Madrid's president, Florentino Pérez, does not agree a settlement that suits both parties he could yet torpedo the club's plans by announcing that he is staying after all. Madrid intend to replace Mourinho with Carlo Ancelotti.

In all honestly you don't know that.

Look at the legacy he's leaving behind.
    Team as champions.
    Strong youth structure.
    Money to strengthen.

They said the same years ago when Shankly left LFC and they only got stronger.

Successor will need balls of steel, especially if Sir Alex just moves upstairs.

I really hope they appoint Moyes, mainly because he's terrible. A piss poor record in big games.

Given Mourinhos history of supposedly burning teams out over a couple of seasons, he doesn't seem like the best fit for United. That plus I've always maintained he would be insane to go there, it's a no win situation for him. However, he is the outstanding candidate in terms of ability and character.

Respect to a great manager. The club will suffer now whomever they appoint to replace him.

Did great things, but with Englands richest club, and fortunate to arrive just as the game changed with Sky. Without question, given the resources available, should have been capable of winning more than 2 Euro titles in 27 years - Milan won 5 in the same period, Barcelona 4, Madrid 3 (and they are a "joke of a club").

So, great, but not the greatest. I'd go so far as to say not even Man U's greatest.

Is Ferguson staying on as Director/Ambassador not a bad thing for whoever comes in as the manager ?

    The League will miss him.
If they get the right man in, Utd will continue to dominate :(

I hope they appoint Roy Hodgson. Man Utd's fans seemed sure he deserved more time at a big club ;)

What is amazing is how few Man U fans can remember a previous manager. That's a proper measure of his achievements.

Fergie wouldn't of left without having his successor in place. His successor, most likely, Mourinho would've known for months I'd say.

No, but i'm fairly confident he would be by most if he became manager! He's the undisputed number 1 choice, the alternatives just don't match up to him.
