DERBY SPONSOR TO BE UNVEILED ON MONDAY NEXT
    08/05/2013
The identity of the new Irish Derby sponsor, which has been so tightly guarded in recent times, will be revealed on Monday next at a special Derby launch at Shelbourne Park.
As intimated here some time ago, it would appear that the new sponsor will be a newcomer to the sport with British and Irish connections. It is also whispered that it will be a three-year contract and that can only be very encouraging for the Irish greyhound industry.

UK BASED ETS UNVEILED AS IRISH DERBY SPONSOR
    13/05/2013
Finally the identity of the 2013 Irish Greyhound Derby sponsor is known.
At Shelbourne Park today the UK based finance company Enterprise Target Solutions (ETS) was confirmed as sponsors for the world’s premier greyhound competition for the next three years.
Full details of the prize structure have not yet been released but it can be confirmed that the prizefund will be €240,000, of which the winner will receive €125,000. This is a €5,000 rise in the winner’s prize from last year’s event. The overall increase in prizemoney will be used to provide extra rewards for the beaten finalists in the classic.
This greater spread in the overall prizemoney will be welcomed by owners and trainers alike. But the greatest welcome will be for the fact that a sponsor has been confirmed and that the sponsorship is guaranteed for three years.
The new deal with ETS will see the overall investment in the Irish Greyhound Derby run to almost €750,000 over the three years and will make this year’s event the richest race in the northern hemisphere.
Russell Warner, the Chief Executive Officer of ETS, expressed his “delight to be the sponsoring partner for the Irish Derby over the next three years. As a new entrant to the Irish business community, we recognise the power of long-term partnerships and relationships”.
Irish Greyhound Board chairman Phil Meaney replied to Mr Warner’s address by stating that “this is an exciting development for the greyhound industry in Ireland and it is fantastic news to see an international financial company launching into Ireland with its sponsorship of our Derby”.
Today’s launch at Shelbourne Park also featured the presence of many of the winning trainers of the past 55 years of the Irish Derby and a number of them were interviewed during the gathering. Also present was Helen McEntee TD, daughter of the late Minister for Greyhounds, the late Shane McEntee.
The Derby will run at Shelbourne between Wednesday, August 7th and Saturday, September 14th.

THE OFFICIAL ETS IRISH GREYHOUND DERBY RELEASE

Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) Signs Exciting New Three Year Derby Sponsorship Deal With
    Enterprise Targeting Solutions (ETS)

New Prize Fund Makes Irish Greyhound Derby Richest Race in Northern Hemisphere

The Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) has signed a new and exciting three-year sponsorship agreement with UK-based independent finance company Enterprise Target Solutions (ETS). The brand new deal with ETS will see the overall investment in the Irish Greyhound Derby run to just under €750,000 for the coming three years and also makes this year's event the richest race in the northern hemisphere with an overall prize fund of €240,000 which is remarkable given the current challenges facing the depressed sports sponsorship market here.

The Irish Greyhound Derby launches on 13 May 2013 at Shelbourne Park in Dublin. It is one of the toughest and highest profile greyhound racing competitions in the world, with greyhounds competing from every corner of Ireland and the UK.

The Irish Greyhound Board, established in 1958, celebrate their 55 year anniversary in 2013. To mark this milestone, 55 years of Derby winning trainers were invited to Shelbourne Park to celebrate the new sponsor announcement. Among the winners, are two fathers & sons who both achieved the Derby dream; Owen McKenna and his father, Ger McKenna, and Brendan Mullen and his late father, Jack Mullen. Of course, each Derby winner has an interesting story to tell, and the Derby dream is one which owners and trainers aspire to, not just in Ireland, but, across the world.

The Irish Greyhound Derby is the pinnacle of Irish Greyhound Racing. Just a year after the introduction of Greyhound Racing to Ireland in May 1927, the first ever Irish Greyhound Derby ran in Harold's Cross in 1928. Four years on, in 1932, the Irish Greyhound Derby achieved Classic (Nationwide) status and ran for the first time in Shelbourne Park.

    A JUNE IRISH LAUNCH
In a similar vein to the trainers, ETS will be providing sound advice and winning strategies to Irish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) later this year when it launches into the Irish market in June.
The independent funding partner will offer innovation, renewable energy and export-led SMEs across Ireland relevant, targeted financial solutions to help them realise their full potential.

Since the financial crisis, traditional lenders such as banks have tightened their lending criteria, stifling growth and development within the small business community. ETS will offer flexible funding and equity solutions to businesses in addition to extensive network relations in Ireland, the UK and across the Eurozone to boost their potential for growth and sales. By sponsoring the Irish Greyhound Derby, ETS aims to connect with the Irish business community whilst simultaneously showing its commitment to a long-term partnership with the IGB.

Last year’s Irish Greyhound Derby saw huge increases in attendance and Tote turnover on grand final night, up 33% and 18% on the previous year respectively. The IGB expects further increases this year.
IGB CEO Adrian Neilan said: “Our ability to attract a UK sponsor from the financial sector shows that our product is recognised internationally and our racing brand is a world leader and gives our industry the excellent profile it deserves. We have worked extremely hard over the past months to secure a high calibre sponsor worthy of our world class Derby and we've now succeeded in turning this famous event into the richest race in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in this challenging economic climate."

    LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIPS
ETS CEO, Russell Warner, said: “Enterprise Targeting Solutions is delighted to be the sponsoring partner for the Irish Greyhound Derby over the next three years.
As a new entrant to the Irish business community, we recognise the power of long-term partnerships and relationships.”
He added: “Our mission is to provide small and medium-sized Irish businesses with a flexible and forward-thinking finance alternative to funding enterprises based on mutual profit principles.

“Predicting the winner of a race is never easy, but when working with the best of breed the chances of success are higher. ETS understands the unique nature of the Irish Greyhound Derby and our sponsorship model provides immediate awareness of our own unique approach to business success. We look forward to an exciting future together.”

IGB Chairman Phil Meaney said: “This is an exciting development for the greyhound industry in Ireland and its fantastic news to see an international financial company launching into Ireland with its sponsorship of our Derby. There are some amazing greyhounds in training here at the moment and if they stay sound we have the prospect of one of the best Derbys ever in the Autumn.”

This year’s Derby starts with the first round heats over three nights on 7, 8 and 10 August, with the Grand Final on 14 September. The first Derby was run in 1932 and this will be the 86th running of this prestigious international event.
