Great turnout for the first night this year. The quality of darts was excellent with a mixture of young players (Doyles Phibsboro who will play in the Tuesday Senior next year after winning their wednesday league) and seasoned players going toe to toe on the oche. and a special mention for the ladies who turned up and gave a good account of themselves on the night against said seasoned players.
But inevitably it was the form players who shone through on the night.
    Semi Finals : M Hannigan 2 v 0 E daly
    C White 1 v 2 T Meehan
    Final: M Hannigan 3 v 1 T Meehan
A great final to grace the first night back so if your feeling lucky or confident pop down next Tuesday and get your name in the frame see you then. GAME ON !!!!!!!!!!

Another great night of darts in the Arms tonight with the standard picking up from last week.Great turnout with a fitting semi's and final to grace any competition around. First semi Tom Connor v Shane O'Connor. Shane throwing as confident as ever (with new darts) came up against a stubborn Tom who threw consistently and finished both games on top's first time of asking.Joe Byrne and Ross O'Brien contested the 2nd semi with Joe going 1-0 up but Ross bounced back with a great leg with Joe not getting near a double. But Joe finished the 3rd leg in similar fashion to set up a mouth watering final which did not disappoint. Tom took the first leg with steady darts but Joe as he does knuckled down to go 2-1 up with typical Joe Byrne consistent darts.Tom levelled 2-2 but Joe looked the more likely the way he was throwing and so it proved to be in the final leg with Joe kicking off with a 140 and steady 100's leaving 16 with Tom sitting on 146.
Then to Joe's amazement Tom produced the best 3 darts of the night T20 T20 D13 to take out the 146 for an amazing finish to a great night of darts. So if you want to improve your darts pre-season or just have a bit of craic get down to the Arms next week and have a go. GAME ON !!!!!!!
    Semis: Shane O'Connor 0 V 2 Tom Connor
    Joe Byrne 2 v 1 Ross O'Brien

Final: Tom Connor 3 v 2 Joe Byrne

Once again the darts didn't disappoint in the Arms tonight another good turnout for a good night of darts. Some good early games with some new faces this week and with a couple more weeks experience mixing it with seasoned players should definitely be in the frame in the future. But inevitably it was the seasoned players who shone through. The first semi was Des Brennan v Joe Byrne last weeks beaten finalist. The first leg was a cagey affair with Joe going !-0 up but ran away with the second leg with methodical Joe Byrne darts to earn a place in the final for the 2nd week running. The 2nd Semi saw James Kinsella v Tom Connor last weeks winner. But Tom didn't have it all his own way in this one with James going 1-0 up and letting Tom in in the 2nd leg to make it 1-1. James again missed doubles in the 3rd to let Tom finish out to set up a repeat of last weeks final but the result was to be very different this week. Joe won the first leg in 16 darts with Tom very close on his tail. The 2nd leg was very close but again Joe pipped this one to go 2-0 up. The 3rd was a Joe Byrne typical leg with again methodical tons and a 140 for good measure to finish in 15 darts. 3-0 the final result.

Semis: Joe Byrne 2 v 0 Des Brennan
    James Kinsella 1 v 2 Tom Connor
Final: Joe Byrne 3 v 0 Tom Connor

Once again thanks for the support and see you all next week. GAME ON !!!!

A special night in the Arms tonight with 4 All Ireland winners from the Regency Hotel at the weekend in the mix.Robyn Byrne(Dublin Youths Team Winner who missed the Bull tonight for a 170 checkout)
Liam Gallagher(16 year old from Galway) youth singles winner who won the last leg in that competition with 14 darts and Joe Byrnre and Alan Mulcahy(who took out the winning double) in the mens 7 a side Team Event. Firstly congratulations to all 4 who won their respective catorgories under extreme pressure. HATS OFF !!!!
And the usual mix of youth an expierence made for an excellent night of darts.Their was also a 1 leg 501 competition held for 1st round eliminations which went down well. Won by Liam Bolger who beat Dan Kelly in the Final.
But the semis in the main competition were contested by Shane O Connor v Liam Gallagher and Tom Connor v Eamon Daly
First up was Shane and Liam probably the best senior and junior players in the country at the moment and what a game it turned out to be.The 1st leg was a nervy affair with Shane miising 6 darts at tops and Liam checking out 70 to go 1-0 up.The 2nd leg Liam missed Bull for 102 out leaving 25 but Shane clocked a pressure D10 to level. The 3rd leg was a television leg with Liam starting with 83 followed by a 140 by Shane .Liams answer was a 180 and Shanes response was 140 again.Liam sitting on 98 after 9 darts stepped up and cooly finished the leg in 12 darts and into the final.Eamon and Tom played out a less exciting semi but tense all the same with Eamon missing the bull for a 122 checkout but took the leg.Tom bounced back with a 17dart leg to level. And with both players missing winning doubles in the last Tom prevailed to reach his 3rd final in 3 weeks.
Liam took over where he left off in the semi's with a 17 dart 1st leg to go 1-0 up. An average 21 dart leg (by the standard tonight) saw Liam go 2-0 up.With Tom throwing usual consistent darts (which have got him to the last 3 finals) Liam stepped it up again with a match winning 18darts and a 114 checkout for good measure to end an impressive night of darts.

    Semi's: Liam Gallagher 2 v 1 Shane O'Connor
    Eamon Daly 1 v 2 Tom Connor
Final: Liam Gallagher 3 v 0 Tom Connor

So once again if you want to improve your pre-season darts or gain some first time out expierence the City Arms is the place to be on a Tuesday night. Thanks for the continued support and see you all next week GAME ON !!!!!

Eugene Mc Ardle 0 v 2 Ryan Maher
Final: Ryan Maher 3 v 2 Ala Mulcahy

(heard in the semi's at 1-1 Ala took out a 12 darter with a 152 finish to beat young Liam top quality)

Normal service resumed. Away on holiday last week so the only information received was Shane O'Connor bt Liam Gallagher in the Final.

Back in the Arms tonight and once again the standard was top quality as usual. Michael Smith (PDC World Youth Champion) dropped in to try his luck but unfortunately bowed out in the 3rd round to Shane O'Connor in a gripping game which could have went either way.
    Semi Finals: Shane O'Connor 2 v 0 Joe Byrne.
    Colly White 2 v 1 Eamon Daly

    Final; Colly White 3 v 2 Shane O'Connor

The final was breathtaking Colly went 2-0 up with superlative scoring and finishing which hit Shane for six and should have completed a comfortable 3-0 victory but missed doubles something you don't do against Shane and he punished Colly's slack finishing in this leg to claw back 2-1. With a 100 and two 134's back to back Shane completed a 13 dart leg for a 2-2 comeback and won the toss for the last leg. Advantage Shane. Colly scored poorly at the start of this leg which put Shane in the driving seat. With Shane on 65 and leaving 32 after 2 darts had 1 dart at double 16 which he pinned and missed but must have felt relatively comfortable with Colly still sitting on 172. But a fantastic 140 by Colly which left him 32 put Shane under extreme pressure for his next 3 darts at 32 which he pinned with 3 well thrown darts that did not hit the target. Colly stepped up pinned the wire with a perfect marker for his 2nd dart which he buried in the middle of the bed for a deserved 3-2 victory.
Once again the standard just gets better every week so get down next week and improve your game with top quality darts. GAME ON !!!!!

P.S. Liam Bolger won the Shield for a 2nd time (1st round casualties competition) Time to take the big one Liam ??????

Firstly can I start with congratulating Joe Byrne(Joe the Pro) on winning Bobby Tolans Competition last Sunday against the elite of Dublin Darts and still turned up as usual for his weekly go at the City Arms Comp. With Holiday season in full swing and swealtering weather conditions it was a small show tonight of 15 players so a round
robin was decided upon to give everyone a fair crack. 3 groups of 4 and 1 of 3 saw the 1st 2 of each group contest the quarter finals and it could have been a case of father meets daughter in the final only for a Tom Connor 15 and 13 dart 2- 0 semi final victory over Robyn Byrne(well done Robyn)
The final was contested between 2 previous winners (Joe Byrne and Tom Connor) who had beaten each other in previous finals so this one was hard to call. Tom took the first leg in a nervy encounter and could have taken the 2nd sitting on tops with Joe on 80 which he cooly took out for 1-1. With Joe sitting on 40 for a 2-1 lead Tom hit 70 off 110 to leave tops.Joe hit 20 and missed 2 darts at double 10 to let Tom steal the 3rd leg. In the 4th leg Joe hit 140 to leave 120 and Tom answered with a 180 to leave a finish but Joe popped the 120 pressure finish to make it 2-2. The last leg just like the 1st became a nervous one with Tom just edging ahead and sitting on 56with Joe on 168 and throwing. Joe produced a typical Joe Byrne 122 to leave 46 and Tom with a pressure 56 from which he missed 2darts at tops then Joe as he normally does calmly took out the 46 for a 3-2 victory which gave him his 2nd final win this summer.
The standard never drops in this competition so pop down next week and have a go. GAME ON !!!!

APOLOGIES I'VE JUST BEEN INFORMED TOM BEAT ROBYN AT THE QUARTER FINAL STAGE NOT THE SEMI'S AS ABOVE (still well done in that company)[/B]

Semi Finals : Tom Connor bt Liam Mongey
                       Joe Byrne bt Eamon Daly
Final: Joe Byrne bt Tom Connor 3-2

Back to knockout tonight in the Arms and once again the standard of darts was expectedly maintained. Some previous winners exiting early doors notably Shane O'Connor 1st round to Liam Bolger (twice Shield Winner) and Colly White quarter finals to Brian Nesbitt who scored high to take Colly. But the semi's came down to Liam Mongey who beat Brian Nesbitt 2-0 and Joe (the pro) Byrne who beat Ala Mulcahy 2-0. and put joe into his 4th final this summer.
The first leg was cagey as expected.Joe produced a 180 with his 2nd 3 darts to lay down a marker but Liam responded with a 135 to let Joe know he was in a game.Joe took the leg on double 8 to go 1-0 up and never looked back from here.
Joes next leg was television darts with 140/140/100/81 and pinned tops for a 13 dart finish which would have been deserved but eventually took the leg in 17 darts.
Joe's 3rd leg was as impressive as the 2nd with 100/125/140 and an out of sorts 44 to leave 92 from which he left 16 with Liam sitting on 157. But Joe as ever cooly popped out the 16 for a respectable 16 dart leg to bring his winning tally to 3 wins this summer so far.
Once again the quality of darts is of the highest order in this competition so pop down and make a name for yourself next Tuesday.
    GAME ON !!!!!!!!

Semi Finals: Joe Byrne 2 v 0 Ala Mulcahy
    Liam Mongey 2 v 0 Brian Nesbitt
Final: Joe Byrne 3 v 0 Liam Mongey

Not a great turnout last night but managed to run a round robin anyway. Four went through to a semi's namely Liam Bolger,Joe Byrne,Eugene Mc Ardle,Ala Mulcahy. Quality darts in the semi's by all four with each semi finishing 2-1. Joe beat Ala and Eugene beat Liam.
The final between Joe and Eugene was just as close. Eugene took the 1st leg and Joe the 2nd for 1-1. Joe should have taken the 3rd but some uncharacteristic missed doubles let Eugene in to snap up the gift and go 2-1 up. Joe took the 4th for 2-2 to set up a final leg decider which produced the best leg of the match. With Eugene on 48 after 15 darts and Joe on 74 after 12. Joe put the 74 to bed in 2 darts and in typical fashion for a 14 dart leg and a 3rd final win in as many weeks and a 4 time winner overall. Most definitely the in form player at the moment.
    Semi's: Eugene Mc Ardle 2 v 1 Liam Bolger
    Ala Mulcahy 1 v 2 Joe Byrne

Final: Joe Byrne 3 v 2 Eugene Mc Ardle

See you all next week GAME ON !!!!!!!

A small turnout again tonight so a round robin was the order of the day once again with the top 2 from each group (4 groups) contesting the quarter finals. Joe Byrne v Brendan O'Neill & Ala Mulcahy v Andy Gallagher was the semi line up with the 2 form players on the night going through to the final with 2-0 respective victories for Ala and Joe.
Joe and Ala contested a lack lustre final compared to recent weeks with Joe just pipping the first leg.An 18 dart 2nd leg saw Joe go 2-0 up which woke Ala up for the 3rd. Joe kicked off with a 121 followed by a 100 from Ala. Joes next 6 darts were 57/100 and Ala's response was 100/100. another 59/100 left Joe on 64 with Ala on 80 who just pinned and missed tops to check out. However unusually Joe was feeling generous leaving Ala 3 clear darts at 40 which he frustratingly failed to convert with Joe finally clinching the 3rd leg on double 2 to win 3-0 for a 4th consecutive final win in a row (Hard to beat in his current form) So pop down next week and have a go at dethroning Joe the Pro. GAME ON !!!!!!
    Semi's: Joe Byrne 2 v 0 Brendan O'Neill
    Ala Mulcahy 2 v 0 Andy Gallagher

Final: Joe Byrne 3 v 0 Ala Mulcahy

Another round robin in the Arms tonight with the top 2 from each group contesting the quarter finals with the following 4 going through to the semi's Joe Byrne v Robyn Byrne (father/daughter semi) and Andy Gallagher v Liam Bolger(4 time shield winner)
!st semi Joe v Robyn which Robyn won 2-1 keeping Daddy from his 5th final on the trot. Joe unusually gave Robyn chances which more expierenced players may have blown but at the end of the day she had to hit those doubles which she did with precision which put her into her 1st final this summer which she deserved for her commitment to the competition from week one.The 2nd semi was Andy Gallagher v Liam Bolger which Liam took 2-1 in a nervy last leg with both players having equal chances to reach the final but it was Liam who prevailed for his 1st Final this summer.
The 1st leg of the final was evenly matched with Liam checking out 14 with Robyn sitting on 48. Again the 2nd leg was close with Liam popping out 16 with Robyn on 68. It was looking like a 3-0 whitewash to Liam with Robyn not been given a shot at a double. But all changed in the 3rd leg when Robyn hit 3 good scores of 83/121/105 and cooly despatched double 10 with Liam sitting on 92 for 2-1. The 4th leg Robyn kicked off with an 85 & 118 but a brace of 100's from Liam and an 81 saw him sneak ahead. He popped out a 58 with Robyn again sitting on 43. A deserved 3-1 victory for Liam for his 1st win this summer as he has been throwing consistent darts all summer without the rub of the green. But once again congrats to Robyn for reaching the final in such company as was present in the Arms tonight.
We are back to do it all again next week so see you then. GAME ON !!!!!!

Semi Finals: Robyn Byrne 2 v 1 Joe Byrne
    Liam Bolger 2 v 1 Andy Gallagher

Final: Liam Bolger 3 v 1 Robyn Byrne

A 4 group round robin saw the top 2 from each group contest the quarter final with the following going on to the semi's
    Liam Bolger 0 v 2 Gerry Fagan & Terry Meehan 2 v 1 Andy Gallagher.
The final was a good standard throughout Terry threw 1st but it was Gerry who got first crack at the double leaving 46 after 15 darts with Terry in close attendance on 72. A missed 46 by Gerry let Terry in for a pressure shot at the 72 which he finished to go 1-0 up.
The 2nd leg once again saw Gerry down to 40 in 15 darts and with Terry on a finish of 79 Gerry calmly slotted in the double top for a 16 dart leg and 1-1.Terry took the 3rd leg for 2-1 but not before Gerry had just missed tops for a 119 out shot. It looked like a 3-1 game to Terry with 100/100/60/180 against the darts to leave 61 after 12 with Gerry sitting on 160 but some poor doubling by both players saw Gerry sneak in for a 2-2 game. The last leg saw Terry down to 50 after 15 darts with Gerry hitting a late 140 to stay in touch but Terry wasn't having a repeat of leg 4 and popped out the 50 for a hard fought 3-2 victory.
Same time same place next week GAME ON !!!!!!!

    Semi's: Liam Bolger 0 v 2 Gerry Fagan
    Terry Meehan 2 v 1 Andy Gallagher

    Final : Terry Meehan 3 v 2 Gerry Fagan

With numbers back up this week it was back to knockout competition and the shield was back in play (1st round casualties 1 leg 501) with Brian Nesbitt taking out the elder lemon Brendan O' Neill in the final. In the main competition the standard was pretty high with Eugene Mc Ardle v Terry Meehan and Joe Byrne v Jason Byrne in the semi's. Both semi's went the distance with Joe and Eugene progressing to the final after hard fought semi's that could have went either way but finished 2-1 to each victor. So the final was Eugene Mc Ardle v Joe Byrne.
In the final both players showed a total respect for each other which resulted in an average 1st leg which Eugene finished on 56 with Joe sitting on tops. Joe 1-0 down stepped it up a bit in the 2nd checking out 87 with Eugene back on 111 for 1-1. The 3rd leg was similar to the 1st with Joe checking out 40 after Eugene had missed a double leaving 10 off 90.2-1 to Joe.The 4th leg Joe threw 1st with an uncharacteristic 27 which Eugene failed to capitalize on with a 45. but then the fireworks began.Joe hit 130 with a response of 100 by Eugene followed with 58 from Joe. Eugene's response was 2 tons and an 84 to leave 72 with Joe hitting 2 tons to leave 86 from which he left 52.Eugene fumbled to leave 18 off the 72 which left Joe 3 clear darts at the 52 and as many a previous pressure shot throughout the summer he calmly took it out for a 5th final victory this summer (setting a record) RESPECT !!!!
We're back next week to do it all again so with the new season closing in drop down and get the arm going again GAME ON !!!!!!

    Semi's : Jason Byrne 1 v 2 Joe Byrne
Eugene Mc Ardle 2 v 1 Terry Meehan
Final : Joe Byrne 3 v 1 Eugene Mc Ardle

A round robin again tonight but high quality standards maintained as usual. Semi's came down to Joe Byrne v Andy Gallagher & Colly White v Gerry Fagan. With Joe winning 2-0 in a close fought contest with Andy and Colly winning a similar contest against Gerry 2-1 setting up a mouth watering final between Joe and Colly both previous winners and both throwing awesome darts all night. But it looked like a Joe Byrne 6th final victory with Joe taking the 1st leg and producing140/96/140/105 to leave 20 which he popped for a 13 dart leg to lead 2-0 with Colly in close proximity on 75.Joe hit 140/140/60/97 in the 3rd to leave 64 but Colly also hit 2 140's to stay in touch and with Joe missing 64 for a 3-0 victory Colly took out a pressure 74 for a 17dart leg for 2-1.Colly under pressure produced an amazing 4th leg with 85/60/100/100/140 to leave 16 which he popped 1st time of asking after Joe had just hit a 180 to leave 106.And so to the final leg which Colly won the toss on to throw 1st.And with a 95 from Colly Joe responded with 4 consecutive 100's to leave 101 from which he left 58 with Colly throwing for 77 after hitting a 126 to leave it after 15 darts. A perfect treble 19 and double 10 saw Colly finish the game in an amazing comeback when many a player would have folded to Joe's previous finishing prowess in this compettiton. So from a 2-0 deficit Colly hit back with 17/16/17 dart legs for a memorable victory.
And we do it all again next week so pop down and have a go. GAME ON !!!!!!!

Semi Finals : Andy Gallagher 0 v 2 Joe Byrne
    Colly White 2 v 1 Gerry Fagan

Final: Coly White 3 v 2 Joe Byrne

No comfort of a round robin this week and it was back to straight knockout which seemed to raise everyone's game. The fab 4 this week into the semi's were Jason Byrne (who beat last weeks champ Colly White with a cracking 136 out shot) v Ala Mulcahy and Liam Mongey v Terry Meehan. Two very hard fought semi's which both finished 2-1 went to Terry and Ala who had both previously reached the final stage.
The final itself never really kicked into life with Terry quickly going 2-0 up with an 80 out shot after Ala had failed to convert 55 for a level game. Ala threw 1st in the 3rd leg to save the match but again started slowly which Terry took advantage of with 2 ton plus scores (121/140)to take control of the leg. Ala had a shot at 101 from which he left 12 after missing double 12 to claw back. But Terry on his favoured double 10 checked out for a 3-0 win and a 2nd final victory.Consolation for Ala would be the darts he threw to the final but Terry was just too consistent for everyone all night.
Next week is the last week of the competition so drop down for the last hurrah and get your name in the frame. GAME ON !!!!!

    Semi Final's : Ala Mulcahy 2 v 1 Jason Byrne
    Terry Meehan 2 v 1 Liam Mongey

    Final : Terry Meehan 3 v 0 Ala Mulcahy.

Sadly the last night of the competition 2 night but talk about save the best till last, Good turnout for the last night so straight knockout the order of play. The top 4 who came through tough earlier rounds were Eamon Daly v Colly White and Terry Meehan v Martin Byrne(winner of 1st Dublin County Team trial last sunday) But it was Terry (2-0) and Colly (2-1) who progressed to the last final of this year's competition and what a final to compliment the darts that were thrown here all summer. The 1st leg set the tone for this final with Colly starting with 3 nervy darts (25)which Terry responded to with a 140.Colly's immediate response was 180/140 and then finished the leg in 18darts for a 1-0 lead.Terry's response in the 2nd leg was 100/60 /140 followed by colly's 100/140/140 but lack of finishing by Colly let Terry in for a 17 dart leg and 1-1.What happened next was TV darts to the end by Colly. A 140/125/140/80 led to a 14 dart leg and a 2-1 lead for Colly. Terry's response to save the game was 100/100/100/60 but in vain as Colly produced 3 back to back 140's and a 56(missing Bull for a 12 darter) to leave 25 for a consecutive 14 dart leg which he calmly despatched for the best final performance this summer(seven 140's and a 180 over the 4 legs by Colly)
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every player who threw a dart in the City Arms this summer for their support (Joe Byrne 5 times winner 7 times finalist who raised the bar and upped everybody's game) and a special thanks to the ladies (Robyn/Dagmara/Amo) who put it up to some of the best players in the competition this summer. And number 1 ladies supporter Sue Byrne. Hopefully back again next year to do it all again. GAME OVER !!!!!

Note to all City Arms signed players meeting next Tuesday to discuss upcoming season and general get together every Tuesday until league starts see you then thanks.
