Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

iCloud iPhone restore

I am trying to restore and iPhone using iCloud and it has been running for some hours but has now given me the following error:
Restore Incomplete - Some items could not be downloaded from the Store. If they are on your computer, you can restore them by syncing with iTunes.

As I understand it the term items here refers to apps which I can restore from iTunes, which is no problem, the problem is that when I go into iCloud on the iPhone it still gives me an option to stop the restore - is this a bug or is something still restoring in the background and I should leave it alone and hold off on the itunes restore?

It's likely just some apps that have since been removed from the App Store. If everything else is there you can probably just stop the restore or restart the phone.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, definitely an option, but I would much rather confirm somehow it is not still restoring as I understand it is not possible to resume restores, one can only completely reset the iPhone and try restoring again.

Unfortunately there is no way to know if everything is actually there from memory, it is not my phone, and if it was it would still be possible to miss something.

I could leave it over night to see if everything has been downloaded but there was only 900MB to download so it should not be taking this long.

    Any other way to check?

Are any of the apps on the home screen stuck on "loading"? It's possible they might have been paused.

No, none are, and I am going to check Photos and music to see if that is updating.

Since I know the size of the backup is between 800 and 900 MB perhaps there is some way I can check how much memory on the iPhone is in use? If it is close it would suggest the backup has been restored.

That said, if some apps and music have not been restored, this will not give a clear indication.

The restore of the backup is probably already finished. Once the phone restarted following the restore it would have just been syncing apps and purchased content, which aren't included in the backup.

Hmmm okay, it actually restarted very soon after initially starting the restore and then I think it was showing apps etc with a progress bar across them which must mean they were reinstalling.

I am going to restart it again now and then try sync music and apps with iTunes.

    Thanks for the input :)

For anyone else encountering this in the future, although no apps appeared to still be downloading when I check iTunes I could see music is still downloading.
