Just wait till I take over and then it will no be longer be "like" a crime.

Also with Rambo 1, Rocky 1 and Terminator 2 you've got some of the best war, sports and action films ever made respectively.

You've just listed off some of my favorite films , if I had my way you would be locked in a room with all of the above plus a few more old classics and not let out till viewed and respected :).

I think one of the biggest films I've never seen, and never want to see, is Avatar. I hate James Cameron ever since Titanic.

Meh Avatar is alright you're missing nothing special be interesting to se what he does with the sequels.

I did hate Titanic though how that won so many oscars and so much praise is beyond me. The only bit I enjoyed was the last half an hour when the boat sank which was brilliantly shot.

I probably wouldn't hate Titanic so much if my sister hadn't gotten a tape of it as a kid, forcing everyone to watch it 20 times in a week.

True story. I went to see Titanic in the cinema (rather I was dragged to see it :pac:) and at the climax of the movie, some dullard across the other side actually exclaimed "Oh no, it's going to sink".

One of my friends got dragged to the rerelease, but refused to take it seriously. When some lady was sliding down the ship and her dress came up, he said "my bloomers!" He wasn't really a fan either :pac:

Titanic or Avatar? I like Titanic although I do think it's overhyped. Also I first saw it as a child so I might be a bit biased by nostalgia. Avatar I refuse to see. It only gained so much popularity because it was in 3D. Also it just looks really rubbish. It also kicked off this stupid trend of making films whose only reason for existence is to cash in on the 3D hype. I like 3D but I don't feel it needs to be in everything and I'm definitely not interested in seeing a film just because it's in 3D.

I hate 3D and refuse to watch any film in 3D I'm not alone in this either. I don't think it gained so much popularity because off the 3D the film was massively hyped because it was James Cameron's first release in a long time since Titanic actually.

But 3D is purely a gimmick and actually takes away from the viewing experience darkens the image. It would be ok if they were trying to advance the technology to improve it but there not its being used as a cash cow and nothing more. It will die out again because it will become stale and people will cop on unless very quickly Hollywood starts to try move things along and stop mugging people as they pay in to the cinema.

i dont like 3d films either.when i think of 3d i imagine things jumping out of the screen trying to rip my face off,not boring depth perception.i've been to a lot of 3d films (my local cinema sometimes doesn't get the 2d version) and i've only been impressed with 2 small scenes.the first one was the opening of monsters vs. Aliens for about 2 seconds at the start when the guy hits a ball on a paddle out towards the audience.and at the end credits of jackass 3 when there were hundreds of dildo's flying towards the audiences faces
the 3d glasses give me a pain in the head and they make the films look much darker than they're supposed to be and tickets are a couple of quid dearer.did i mention that i don't like 3d films

oh yeah and avatar sucks.visually stunning film but the acting and the story are pure pants

I LOVED The Raid. But yeah, it really didn't hold back, never saw such a mix of people cringing at the extreme violence and people entranced by it! I was somewhere in between!

As for 3D, I love the IMAX 3D, and find the standard 3D harder to watch now! The IMAX 3D is so much better it's in a completely different league.

Matter of opinion, but I could not disagree more.

With regard to Avatar, I'd take it over Titanic any day of the week. It's decent, but it really is just Dances With Wolves set on another planet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,313 ✭✭✭Ankhyu

Not arsed with 3D myself either, it hurts my head. I'll always pick the 2D version as my first choice for any film.

I like both Titanic and Avatar, even though Avatar wasn't in the least bit original. Give me Ferngully over it any day! :pac:

I was one of the ones entranced by it, the actions scenes were so fast paced and breathtaking I couldn't help but get sucked into it. One of the best action films of recent years brilliantly shot aswell. Hopefully they manage to pull it off for the sequel and it will get a cinematic release here again.

I won't lie haven't seen it in IMAX so can't say on that one may have to give it a try. 3D does give me a headache but if it was mindblowing I wouldn't mind but even Avatar which was one of the few I did see in 3D which has often been heralded as one of the best I still couldn't help but feel this would be better in 2D.

Oh and for anyone with Sky check out the Toy Story Halloween Special it's class :)

Anyone ever get a tattoo while sick before? I've a touch of a cold, it's not that bad really but I know it's probably not ideal to have thousands of holes poked in you when your immune system is weakened.
My holidays start tomorrow and I specifically booked the appointment so that I wouldn't have to deal with a healing tattoo and my work uniform. Thoughts?

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

It'll prolong your healing, and because your immune system is lower, you could be more prone to picking up some sort of infection in it. I'd postpone it, but if it's not really an option, then look after yourself and the tattoo as much as possible.

And be sure to let your tattooist know beforehand, as they may not want you there under their needle if you're not well, as they could catch it off you!!!

I guess it could be an age group thing (not calling you old I just mean I was a teenager when it came out) but most I knew who were talking about it at the time were talking about the fact it was in 3D. I guess it was a bit of everything.

It only darkens the image if the 3D effect is added afterwards. If it's actually filmed in 3D (something to do with cameras and mirrors, I'll admit I don't understand it) the image quality isn't effected. It is being used as a cash cow completely though. It's why I complained about it being used in everything and why I resisted seeing any film in 3D for so long myself, didn't 'til this year.

For those who hate 3D/it gives them a headache try 2D glasses.

It doesn't it darkens the image whether its shot in 3D specifically or 2D in the case of Avatar which was shot entirely in 3D and they used special techniques to lighten it up it was still quite considerably darker than that of a 2D film.

True though in normal 2D films were 3D is thrown in as an after thought this is intensified even more so which is the case in the majority of films released in 3D.

Here's a good link with a write up about it http://www.thewrap.com/movies/column-post/3d-progress-lost-dark-19392

Cheers though have heard of them 2D glasses but luckily were I am always get 2D and 3D showings so always the option :).

I got one before while I had a dose of a flu and it was in winter and it wasn't something I'd do again.
Seemed a lot more painful and took a bit longer to cool down despite using bepanthen.

I concur :), thought the first one was ok nothing special but decent. Loved the second one. Comic book movies have always been hit and miss for me but loved the Avengers and Thor 2. Have never ever warmed to any the Spiderman films or X Men films until First Class thought that was brilliant trailer for the sequel has me a bit iffy.
