    Hello

i am new here in this forum and since October in Midleton,Ireland.
I want to go fishing on Brown Trouts. In the fishing shop
the owner tell me that i do not need a license for it but many parts
of lakes and rivers belong to fishing clubs. He tell me there are maps in the internet where i can go fishing here but i can not find.
Can someone help me and send me a link, please?

    nice greetings

    pete

    Hi Pete

Check out these websites and have a look around

    http://www.fisheriesireland.ie/

    http://www.fishinginireland.info/

I used to fish in the Qwennacurra years ago and it used to have brown trout alright. About seven years ago there was a silage spill and it killed all the fish in the river, I think it was restocked since but I have been once or twice and never caugh anything.

AFIK only Sea trout and Salmon require a licence in Ireland, you can fish for brown trout, eels and coarse fish such as pike and perch without a licence. Although you may need permission of the land owner etc.

Also there are restrictions on what bate can be used this year, worms and prawns are banned iirc.

Anyway all the information you need is in the websites above.

The River Suir is one of the best rivers to fish for both Salmon and trout at the moment in europe so my advice is take a trip up to Caher and have a go there. Anyway happy fishing.
