Hi all my son is autistic and I have been receiving carers allowance for him since he was five.He turned sixteen last october and I was cut off my CA.I have had it reviewed got turned down again ,I. am currently having it reviewed an awaiting a decision. His condition has not changed since he was first diagnosed so I don't know what else they want from me.I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this and what was their outcome?thanks

My understanding is that you stay on carers allowance and he goes on disability. I am not at that stage yet so can't remember weather it's 16 or 18 but anyway I can't understand why you were taken off it.

You know you can ask them to explain exactly why.

    T d s are useless... Honestly.

You need as many specialist reports you can get. And you need to lodge a letter of appeal. Have them accept the appeal as you will be entitled to backdating

In fairness nothing has changed from the day he turned from 15 to 16 he still has a disability and I was would be telling them this. I would definitely go to a td but I would appeal appeal everything and ring and talk to the people. I know it's exhausting but for everyone that doesn't do it then its one less they pay. This makes me really mad nothing at all has changed it is a disgrace. The above poster is true get whatever medi al reports you can but be prepared for the long haul however don't give up.
    Best of luck.

    Hi caro76

If you can afford it, I would also recommend that you make an Freedom of Information request to get the details of the decision made against you. This will help you appeal against specific reasons and may help your appeal. Link to form and guidelines below

My brother has Aspergers and was on disability for years then at Christmas it was stopped as it was "decided by the powers that be" that Aspergers was no longer a disability, maybe the same applies to your sons autism and they think he is no longer in need of a carer. :(

Hiya my gp has been brilliant and photocopied everything from my sons file which I sent off for my first reviewbut he has since wrote letters for me and his school have written letters stating that he needs and gets full time care.I sent away for his medical assessment from freedom of information but I only got back what I sent originally with notes attached stating"This chap does not need full time care" I have sent off an appeal with additional letters from school and doctors but other than that I don't know thanks for all your comments .Fingers crossed now!!!

Jesus Caro76 that is terrible.Do they think that when a child reaches 16 that they are suddenly cured. What options do you have now.Do you mind me asking if your child is been treated by a specialist at the moment and is there nothing they can do to help.

Request a medical review it can be done don't give up whatever you do - the slog will be worth it.
