Fitting rear seat belts

    I have 3 point seat belts that i need fitted to the rear of a Talbot Express to secure child seats. can anyone point me in the right direction for getting this done.
    Any info would be great, thanks.

    I've asked around about this in the past, practically no one is interested in doing it, and I've constantly been directed to Parfitt in Swords, as they do that kind of work. Phoned them a while back, and they'd need to see the vehicle of course before they can comment. Rough cost is €300 per seatbelt they told me, supplied & fitted

    Several coach builders told me that despite having in house engineers they wouldn't touch anything like that any more they only fit m tested seats with integrated belts. Your best bet is DIY with proper harness plates and find an auto engineer to sign it off.

    Ardee Coach Trim. I enquired with them a while back. They said they can do it but will need to look at it first

    Any fitting will have to be bolted/welded to the chassis of the vehicle. The integrity of the plywood/polystyrene body of the vehicle cant be relied upon to hold a person in place in the event of a crash, no matter how big the backing plates. Internal walls are even flimsier.

    Thanks for the replies, i've been in touch with Parfit and will be dropping over on Monday to let them have a look. I'll report back once i've spoke to them.

    Quick update. Parfit wanted 680 each for 3 point belts and 350 each for 2 point lap belts which i thought was extortion until i had my time completely wasted by Ardee coach trim who told me over the phone they "without even knowing the price could gladly half any price parfit quoted"
    I drove up to them only to be told not only could they not half the price, they couldn't even match it! They wanted 400 each for 2 point lap belts.

    So my search continues....

    DIY and get an engineer to approve it.

    If such an important modification is DIYd an engineer might not approve it, particularly if he/she was concerned about his/her Professional Indemnity insurance.

    I got a quote off Parfit and it was cheaper than yours, about 800/900 (incl VAT) for two 3-point belts. It depends on the existing metal framework thats there - the more they have to do, the more it will cost. Still crazy money though

    They wouldn't be concerned about their indemnity insurance if you do it properly use harness plates, proper seat belt bolts and reinforce / seam weld where necessary. If you look at the guidelines for retrofitting seatbelts to buses you'll find it would be hard not to do it better. I fitted my own, my father fitted his, the guy my father worked for fitted hundreds to classic/vintage cars. No trouble getting it signed off if they'r not happy they'll tell you what needs to be done.
