A few for fun and an interest with PP

    EW outright - Stenson 25/1

Bezuidenhout top South African 10/1( I think this is great value )

Benitez top left handed player 25/1

Treble - Langasque top French 5/2, Hadwin top Canadian 4/5 and Knox top Scottish 5/4

Double on first round only - Lowry top Irish 4/1 and Leishman top Aussie 10/3

    Good luck to all

With Reed playing with Tiger i think that will help him the type of guy he is,
backed westwood just now aswell, if the rough is going to be wet and sticky hitting the fairway will be key

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

Farily wide spread of selections among the last 10 or so posters! Maybe only Fitz and Stenson cropping up in more than 1 bet?

A reflection on it being wide open or none of us having a clue? :D

spieth to win and harrington leader after first round:P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Think I’ll go for the early starters getting the advantage and luckily a few of my fancies are in that section.

As usual, will go big e/w on Rory.
Then Eddie Pep, Xander and Adam Scott e/w.

Adam Scott doesn’t seem to play many tournaments anymore and just concentrated on majors.

Edit: adding RCB as first round leader.

Also, it’s kind of stupid to bet against Koepka. Man is a machine!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Small accum on Eddie Pep highest finishing English, Stenson highest finishing continental European and Ryan Fox highest finishing Australasian. Just to keep it interesting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,967 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Added Koepka, everybody else I have is without big 5.
Stone for top 40 finish at 4/1 looked too big so took that as well. He hadn't made a cut since March before finishing tied 34th at both the Irish and Scottish Opens, he won the Scottish last year and clearly loves links golf.

Focusing on the specialist markets again:

    Top ROTW: Scott, Haotong, Bezuidenhout
    Top Australasian: Fox
    Top Asian: Janewattananond
    Without big boys: Leishman, Oosthuizen

Also hoping to see Bezuidenhout and Janewattananond at the top of the leaderboard so the commentators will earn their corn:p

Haven't backed Rory and is +5 on the 3rd, not the best of starts (3+ Bogey opener).
Clarke (-1) as 300/1 R1L might just place(8) if can make it to -2 or better.

rory gone into 4/9 to miss the but.... 13/8 to make it

still a lot of golf to go, but winds to drop off as the afternoon progresses....

Just did the 1 bet. Justin Thomas @33/1 loved the prep last week. Think he will be there or there abouts

Wind to reduce only slightly this evening, but rainfall radar shows a reduction in shower frequency.
Pleasent bright spell now for couple of hours as Speith starts off well, and Rahm starts in an hour.

Rory has recovered fairly well, still a lot to do, price dipped to 40's for a short while (potential value), back now into 26.0

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,863 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

cashed out on Shane @ 4.2

i think Speight (-3 after 7) will be going lower in slightly more beign conditions.

taken some of that and put on speight @ 9/2 for 1st round leader

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,863 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    LOL typical !!!

speight double bogies the 8th :D

Had Lowry for frl, I'm not annoyed at losing out just annoyed that it was JB Holmes who has shown no form is is a pathetically slow player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Can anyone clarify whether Asia is lumped into the Australsia category for the highest-placed finisher market? Or is Asia separate field? As a geography anorak I would classify them as separate :D

Option disappeared on my online platform and was delighted with Ryan Fox's back-nine.

Yeah JB coming out of nowhere really, and he could do damage again tomorrow.

I've a soft spot for him though cos I won big on him back in 2015 at the shell heuston.

From rough memory he can turn very hot (or cold) very quickly.

All the same, thought it was rude of Sky to have the leader sitting for hours @41(6pl). They've adjusted to match the average (34.0) in the last 15mins.

'365 have the (yesterday's) fav up at 400/1, any takers?

    Not even at 1000....

He might hit 66 tomorrow and still miss the cut.... But really I think his head is gone and he'll battle to a 70/71 and leave on a whimper

Likely so, would be some laugh to get another 61 and get back in it.

Reckon he just needs Mr.Miyagi mentor to attain Samurai chi-like zen focus, swing/putt on and swing/putt off x1000. Or the crane stance on the 1st.
Shakes things up slightly, along with Scott and Tiger out of the frame also.

Koepka 4/1 in Boyles with 8 places. I'm on pre-tournament but I think it's still an enticing bet.

Wonder if that is a system/human error to have 8pl still available.
With a theoretical shortening of the field by up to 70% (only 25-30% are under par) and the pre-fav glancing at the suitcase.

4/1 too short, there is however some price parity via with Holmes 34.0 or Rose 15 on spoils.

4/1 isn't too short when the guy has already put himself in contention, has a caddy who knows the course better than anybody else in the field and whose last four major results are 1-2-1-2.

But if you already have 'pre-tournament' @12+, it might well be.

Agree he'll likely do very well, but the place part (1/5) of coming 2nd at that current price isn't overly exciting. A win(only) enhanced acca might suit better.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,863 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

I think 4/1 is way too short at this stage, for a player 2 behind and facing into a weekend of weather he's not used to, on a links course he's not used to either.... Regardless of his caddy.

I think BK as leader after round 2 is a much more attractive offer at 11/2, given his tee time and the expected weather.

Possibly something small on Tommy F @10s as well....

JB holmes is a poor putter, and he hit a fair few dodgy putts coming in, I can't see him holding on over the course of 3 more rounds. On the flip side he was great tee to green I just can't see him holing enough (any) clutch putts when the pressure is on.

I wouldnt say he is not used to it, he cut his teeth over in Europe on the challenge tour, but I do agree its too short at this stage

Yeah fair point on the challenge tour, conditions won't be alien to him, but it's been six years and at that most of his good results on the tour were in sunnier conditions. Still, the guys a machine and I think him leading after day two is a great bet.

Trying to take a few flyers on the chasing pack going into the weekend. Want to take on some of the top few as think they are far to short.

That being said I think Lowry should be favorite so have backed him at 15/2.

    DJ at 30/1 5 places
    Xander at 40/1 5 places
    Finau at 50/1 5 places.

I do have JT pre tournament at 33/1 10 places so chance of a place on him. With an extremely outside win chance.

I like the 4/5 on winning score higher than 10.5.

Also with the good conditions today I like the 11/1 on Fleetwood and 28/1 on Holmes for a bogey free round for interest.

I don't think either have an earthly of doing that. I'd wanna be getting over 100's to be tempted.

Tommy only has 2 bogies and Holmes 3 bogies in 36 holes. 28/1 is quite high for JB considering he's playing well and out in the better conditions after lunch.

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose:P

    00142832-image.jpg

I'm actually on Cameron myself, double on him to be top 5 and Donegal to beat Kerry as a sort of cover for this
    Top Australasian: Fox

Of course it's highly likely Smith will finish outside the top 5 but still miles ahead of Fox, but felt I had to have something on him given he is AFAICS the only other Aussie left
