Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Don't know if its been done before, but here goes.

    1. Boring status updates - nobody cares what you do every minute of the day
    2. Copy and pasting stuff, and asking everyone else to do the same. Usually legal privacy policy stuff that means nothing
    3. Hashtags, do most people not know that hashtags are for twitter, and if its not a trending topic, tagging a word doesn't do anything
    4. Uploading pictures that are sideways
    5. Uploading 100's of pictures of one event, when 5 would do
    6. Uploading pictures of your dinner, unless you're a food blogger
    7. Falling for all the facebook scams, usually share and like

Having an account in the first place? Its the only thing that leads to a facebook habit.

What people who complain about Facebook don't get is........It's a collective group of YOUR friends!!

If you complain about it, it says more about the people you choose to socialise with.

People that never cease posting about their kids and posting pics incase I forgot what they looked like 10 minutes ago.

It's scary how some parents' are really that empty that they've nothing else to talk about!

Best contraception method ever tho!! :pac:

If I was socialising with them, I wouldn't have them on Facebook. Its more a collection of acquaintances.

I don't experience any of the problems everyone else seems to with facebook. I go on, talk to friends, look at some nice pictures, say some funny things then leave it open in the background while im doing whatever else on the computer and chat people.

You don't need to add annoying people, you don't need to keep seeing their posts, and you're never expected to actually care.

It seems the people who complain about things on facebook are the ones who are more bored than the people doing these 'annoying' things. If it's annoying you log off and do something exciting with your life.

yeah am of the same way of thinking to,have never understood complaining about facebook being crap or other people using facebook,if do not like it dont use it, however its is of some use to the rest of us.

with mine, had managed to find long lost cousins around the same age and younger who we lost contact with after their mum died, have always used it to stay in contact with ex support staff of mine and also for speaking to sister and other family as am speech impaired and cannot use phones.
have never added anyone apart from family or support staff on it,so dont know where people get the idea we all have big friends lists full of people we dont know.

as for other peoples FB habits am not a fan of, am definitely not a fan of the photos that get posted of disabled people doing something challenging for them and it has written something like; 'like and share-respect' am respectful of anyone let alone those who have determination to not let barriers block them, but will not be blackmailed into 'liking' a picture of someone doing an every day part of their life, that isnt respect that is degrading and an insult to their dignity in own view.

am not a fan of when people upload lists of who their best friends are, why do they even feel the need to post it? why do they think people care? friends shoudnt be put on a hierarchy as it is uncomfortable to deal with if are on that list, and an insult to those who support and befriend them but shock horror dont get on their amazin list o matez.

I quit facebook over a year ago and it has been a good thing overall. But it has meant less poontang not to mention the absence of a screening system when considering whether to take someone you've met when drunk on a date. Apart from that quite significant drawback, all good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,391 ✭✭✭Mysteriouschic

Whilst I have a facebook account I rarely go on I usually log on and log off it's just a thing I go on out of boredom but I don't even do much on it.

Some people use facebook like twitter posting what they are doing.
Others moan or rant and making frequent statuses.

    1. People who post pics of their kids. I hate this for two reasons.
    i) The first is that most people don’t give a flying f**k about your children. They might tell you they do but they don’t.
ii) The second is that the kids, in most cases, have no say in what pictures of them are being put out there. Wouldn’t be so much worried about their safety from this point of view but in years to come, baby pics of them will be in the public domain and they have little or no control over them and all for the sake of the parents’ vanity.

I’ve banned anyone from posting a picture of my son on the internet. If he wants to do it when he is older that’s fine but there is no way that people are going to do it without his consent just so someone will tell me or the missus how cute he is.

    2. People who post pictures of food/drinks? Seriously? Why? I know what food looks like. I know what a round of drinks looks like. If you really want me to know about what you ate or a great night out you had, tell me about it. I don’t need to see a meaningless picture.

    3. No one experiences anything anymore. People go to things/places and just take pictures to put on Facebook. Why? Do you think I
won’t believe you if you tell me a story about something you got up to? I don’t need to see the proof. I’d rather you enjoy what you’re doing, meet up with me sometime and tell me about it.

    4. Phoney emotion. Particularly grief tourists. They get soooo emotional and upset about everything...for five minutes and then it’s on to the next bandwagon.

When did we, as a society, decide that pseudo lives with pseudo friends and pseudo experiences, all in the name of vanity, was a better way to live? I hate Facebook and I hate how it’s used. I only believe it should be used by people to stay in touch with those people they care about who they can’t see for logistical reasons (i.e. they live too far away) or by businesses. Everything else associated with Facebook is pure vanity and ego.

That’s not me trying to be cool or whatever, it’s my honest to God opinion.

Not as bad as people who are jealous of people who don't have an account.

Hate the one where 1 share=1 Punch for someone in a pic choking a baby or something like that when it's obviously been photoshopped. Similiarly, the amount of people who fall for the 1 Share=Facebook will donate $5 dollars for this starving child is ridiculous.

think Facebook could fall away a bit in the next year or 2 like Bebo did. Too much idiotic stuff on it these days, most but not all of it caused by regular users

    etc, etc.

I've tinkered with my newsfeed a bit to weed out the rubbish and have full of stuff i would be interested in. I changed the settings of people i dont give a sh1t about or post rubbish all the time so they dont appear on my newsfeed, while at same time not unfriending them incase they get touchy about this sort of stuff. I liked a load of pages to fill the void that I would interested in such as Score.ie, Balls.ie Hoganstand.com etc. Now my newsfeed is full of updates I'm more interested in. I guess it is what you make of it but I can still understand peoples rage at the nonsense you get on it.

The only thing i find strange is the habit of a few people to treat Facebook like a diary. Long posts detailing serious issues they might have with banks, stress, college, work an baby-daddy rants. Why? This is pretty personal stuff. It's not like you're going to get mountains of sympathy (well, the hot girls do)
