Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hardly a hiding. England were the better team until Hodgson started to rest players.

Martin Lipton seemed to think so on Off The Ball. Sturridge should start anyway -

England boss Roy Hodgson is looking forward to unleashing Daniel Sturridge in the friendly international against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Liverpool striker is set to make his first start for his country at Wembley with Danny Welbeck rated a major doubt due to a knee injury.

So who will the stubborn fella give a runout to in the second half.I can't imagine he will make much changes.

He's probably bring on his pet Simon Cox. While real Irish players like Brady and Hoolahan are left out

Heading straight to Wembley after work later

Getting very excited for this. My first Ireland game and first game at Wembley

Obviously not expecting much in terms of the result but the occasion should be mighty :)

What are we looking at here in terms of attendance? Ireland vs. England on a fine May evening calls for a full house but if not that, at least not the bare stands clumps of people here and there.

should be 80,000+ tonight, we will have a big following there, pretty much sold out our 10,000 tickets so that will create a great atmosphere.

Wish Trap would stop this obsession with Walters out wide... think it just totally unbalances the team and we would be much better off with a natural winger like Robbie Brady.

    Prediction

    2 - 0 to England

    My prediction

Hopefully it'll be the end of hearing the reports of the rioting by the english fans in landsdowne road. the amount of re-hashing of old reports in print and radio is crazy.
there's more talk of that than tonights game. The english might beat us at soccer but we get the gold medal for memories!

Who was it who said the English need to remember more of their history whereas the Irish need to forget more of theirs?

Hi lads, on the train to Wembley Central, buzzing for the game. For anyone in the know, am I right in saying Hennessy's Bar is an Irish meet up near the ground?

You lucky fcuker,I'd love to be going. The banter between Adrian Chiles and Keane should be a good laugh on ITV.

I think that Roy Keane's blood will be boiling watching Glen Whelan in midfield, and rightly so.

Trap is being too loyal to the likes of Whelan and St.Ledger, with Sledge only playing 7 games this season and now without a club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,157 ✭✭✭Johnny Utah

And we probably have Pat Dolan on the other channel: :D

There should be plenty green there. They sponsor the London Gaelic Football team.

Looking forward to seeing how the defence fairs. First time for O'Shea and Sledge together? Slow and Quick Centre back pairing

i think he makes a lot of valid points including the one above. who would have taken trap knowing what we know now

I hope we dont get slaughtered, come on Ireland I'd be happy with 0-0

David Forde; Seamus Coleman, John O'Shea, Sean St Ledger, Stephen Kelly; Jon
Walters, James McCarthy, Glenn Whelan, Aiden McGeady; Shane Long, Robbie
    Keane

Is this our strongest possible side for the match?

I'm not sure about Whelan on the wing. I'd probably prefer to have him up front and have maybe McGeady play out on the right with Brady on the left. Inter-change those two if they need it.

Switch Whelan with Hoolahan and I'd be a bit happier.

Hard to make a case for McClean given how poor he's been this season so I think Trap was right to leave him out

I would have rathered that we lined up 4-5-1 like England.

Rooney, Carrick and Lampard will have a decent amount of time on the ball in advanced positions as I cant see McCarthy or Whean stepping in to press them, could lead to problems and allow England to utilise their greatest assest, speed upfront and on the wings.

Everyone has to be 100% tuned in, as I said those 3 can really play and a pick a pass if they're allowed to or if a runner gets free.

I've thought better of heading into town in my England shirt to watch this. Not worth the risk of bumping into a drunken idiot after we knock the fourth goal past you :)

Genuinely hope you all enjoy the game. Hopefully it's an entertaining derby rather than the drab, defensive performance that both teams are capable of.

I'm really looking forward to this game, with a massive side plate of dread. I just hope we can take our chances when they come.

The Irish Republic will give the English FA a present for the 150 year celebrations, with Robbie Keane, Shane Long and somebody else wrapping up a 3-0 victory, just for them, because they're worth it!

Should have been McGeady on the right and McClean on the left... but Trap seems to like Walters for some reason!

Would probably play him in goal ih he had too.

(If Walters is to play, it should be up front; definitely not on the right)
