and what do rates pay for --- street cleaning and
used to cover rubbish, water etc -
now there are all seperate prices for them -

Friend of Mine with a small take away in city centre was paying €2,750 a year - now €14,000 -
his rent is 450 a week - reasonable enough!

    That is absolute madness.

Who are these people? And where the fcuk are they getting their valuations from? Deevy's Garage valued at €1.25m - in this climate? Completely detached from reality.
We are drifting off topic a bit, but here is some good info about the rates revaluation. It's an answer by Brendan Howlin to a question from John Deasy: http://www.kildarestreet.com/wrans/?id=2013-06-27a.357&s=speaker%3A96#g358.q

This is the crux of it:
Even though property values have fallen generally, given that the purpose is to redistribute the overall rates liability, some ratepayers will obtain a reduction while others will experience an increase from the process of redistribution but, overall, revaluation results in a fairer distribution of the rates burden.

It can't be right, though, for a MNC on the estate to be given a 25% reduction, while small City Centre traders receive 70-100% increases. It is completely stupid. They are choking businesses. This is what happens when you have people running a country who have no business background.
