Fair enough, it'd be interesting to know if there are other similar long-haul routes they run that could attract extra space though.

They don't,it's a disaster with the -300,they can't take a profitable cargo load, they operated it during the winter when -200s were in maintenance.the new A330-300s are Increased Gross Weight which would suit them.
Perhaps - I meant PAX load in fairness. Better to have a full flight than one with empty seats (right MOL? ;) )

I think a DUB-YVR might do well seasonally.

And even better to have a full pax load AND a full cargo hold, don't underestimate the value to the airlines of some of the cargo pallets that are carried, they can be significant, especially for companies that rely on Just In Time shipping.

The larger wide body flights have a very significant cargo carrying capability, but to use it on a long range route requires that the departure runway has the length to allow it to be used, and that's an issue for Dublin going forward.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Not always - if you have a full flight then somebody didn't pay enough, or you potentially lost out on a higher paying pax just to fill the plane earlier. This is where yield management comes into play and can be a tricky balancing act to get right.

It seems some work has started on gate 403, security fencing has been erected on the apron at the gate, weather this becomes the a380 gate remains to he seen.

Work has started on the lounge after passing through US CBP, opening Jan/Feb.

You would presume Emirates, since they are the ones supposedly launching an A380 route to DUB on St. Patrick's Day.

I thought it was going to be a DAA lounge. Its past pre-clearance so won't be for Emirates anyway!

    That's a separate discussion.

This lounge is for US-bound passengers.

Lately it seems that with every little ripple in operations at Dublin it causes chaos, eg diverted flights etc. With traffic to keep increasing in 2016 how will Dublin cope?

It will always happen when you are sweating your assets as much as most major airports do. Its not just Dublin who do this all major airports plan for nice calm good weather days - look at Heathrow - somebody sneezes in Slough and it throws the whole airport off.

    Info on this?

Interested to see if it's underground and if not, where is it running through.

It is an underground pipeline. Runs up through malahide road at Donnycarney anyway. I don't have further info to hand.

When you try and finely tune all the systems for cost reason, efficiency of timetables, staffing reasons, getting pax from A to B anything will therefore throw the system out of kilter.

For example capacity of a runway is 45 movements per hour and that's the max aircraft that can use it utilising minimum legal separations for wake etc and you book in 17 hours worth of movements at 44-45 mph like Heathrow and you have a go around because of FOD or whatever it's going to cause issues, now have 4 or 5 aircraft go around due wind sheer etc or close that runway for 15 mins and you see the issues.

As mentioned unfortunately airports and airlines only plan for steady days with perfect weather and where everything goes to clockwork ! A very shortsighted approach considering there are so so many variables that can disrupt aviation! But it's done that way to keep costs down and maximise profits ! Gatwick airport is shocking in the summer during peak time nothing goes on time but airlines will still pack the schedule full of flights, grab customers money and then pretend to be puzzled when it all goes awry ! It's obvious they have bitten off more than they can chew but there's money to be made in doing so hence delays, stress and chaos at busy airports

With all the growth at Dublin airport over the past while, do you think that maybe in a few years we may see terminal 3 come into a reality? I can't see it happening for sometime though

Extra and extended piers at the current terminals will happen first.

Yeah as above they will expand the current terminals first ! There is already a plan and design to add a second pier to T2 so that will be done first before a 3rd Terminal is built

Where would the pier on T2 go? There's not much room left in that area or would it be an air bridge job?

To the left of t2 when you are looking from landside. Think a cargo terminal (swissport?) would have to move.

Id say it won't be for a good few years yet, it would take T2 to reach full capacity first, which it is currently nowhere near at the moment!!

I always thought T2 seemed close to capacity, especially in the mornings, you can see some EI aircraft over at T1 and I've often heard stories of people checking in at T2 but flying out of T1,
