Yes, they connected my apt end with the building's node, so as you said it's just the regular Fiber to the node, then individually to each apartment who requests it.

Tanks for the info. Works the same way in my apartment building and basically the same way it works for all Virgin customers in updated areas.

just got mine installed as well - 220MB on cable speedtest - 40MB on wireless through the actual box.
I have an AC router but didnt have time to connect to that but ill do all that tonight

Damien is fantastic in fairness , he will prob be doing most of the installs in smithfield , great guy.

Remember that if you connect yours directly to the TC7200 from Virgin Media, you'll be on double-NAT, which is far from ideal and terrible for stuff requiring good ping, like gaming.

For the Wireless, use the 5GHz WiFi instead of the 2.4GHz if you can, you'll get up to 80MB instead of 35-40. But maybe older devices can't see the 5GHz one.

If you want to use your own router, then you'll need to contact Virgin reps, ask them to enable IPV4 on your router, and then you have to take some manual steps on your TC 7200 to enable bridge mode, as Virgin Media has removed the option to do that from the TC7200 control panel. You can try here (check comment number 1) or here (a different longer way). Remember, this won't work if you don't have IPV4 enabled instead of IPV6 in your router.

Hey DjTaz, one Virgin Media rep told me he checked with the Engineers deploying the Fibre line and apparently they expected to have it completed by the end of this week, so orders could start to come over early next week.

Of course being Ireland and being UPC you can just multiply this values by 2 or 3, so I think we can aim at 1st / 2nd week of December as a reasonable date for Virgin Media being actually available there.

To be fair, Property Button shouldn't have sent these ads claiming UPC was available, as they sent them 1 month ago and UPC is still not available now. It's their fault for sending them before UPC being actually available.

Thanks Willycat , i havent had time to look at it as i had to go to work , so ill take a look later , i could just let the thompson box do all the router work and use my 5GHz as an access point (disable dhcp and everything else) and leave it at that - ill check it all later.

Sure! Just remember the TC7200 is Dual, it has the 2.4GHz antenna and the 5.0GHz as well, so you can just switch to 5GHz and there's no need to use an access point (if you don't want to). Actually, this router is capable of broadcasting both signals at the same time but VirginMedia has disabled this option (God knows why).

Hi All, moving into Smithfield market apartments and just wondered if there has been any update/improvement on broadband options?
I'll be working from home and finding it really difficult to find a provider for the apartment (keep getting offered 4g router rather than a wired solution?). Any advice/experience really appreciated :)
