So by that logic it would be illegal to cross the white line of a bus lane to gain access to a business premises or your home during bus lane operating hours.

Yes , they would have put a broken lwhite line at the junction to allow for a turn

There's also the business between 10am and 12pm during the week on a lot of them...that's when you really pi55 people off!!

Yes, for example, from Broadstone to Phibsboro. I remember a taxi driver behind me in the lane flashing and beeping as I drove legally in front of him. Even those allowed to use them as bus lanes don't always know the rules.

You are wrong, for example, on the Long Mile Road (dublin 12) there is a bus lane from the Kylemore Rd Junction to the Drimnagh Rd which passes quite a few business premises, homes and a school, there is NO break in the line for access to most of these places so people cross the line every day.
I have even done it with a Garda car coming down this bus lane who saw my indicator to cross the bus lane and he flashed me to cross ahead of him.
Another example is the loading bays on the quays which are in constant use by vehicles that have crossed the bus lane to access the bays, NEVER a problem with garda, I have done it many times as have others every single day.

I always speculated that the reasoning for a 24 hr bus lane, even though buses do not run 24 hr shifts, was to give some advantage to emergency vehicles who might otherwise get caught behind some heavy traffic.
I know that some bus lanes would knock my theory but I cant see the logic behind some lanes being 24hr.
And yes! keep quiet about out of hours lane usage, its great if we are late for something in town or the O2 flying past all the cars on the quays who dont bother to read the signage.

That's because, even when the busses don't drive, there's other public transportation (taxi's), that still drive. So the purpose of the buslane is still given. And yes, in some areas it's useful for emergency services, too.
