Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You will either love it or hate it. It is very much a resort geared to the Irish and UK holiday maker, and not particularly 'Turkish', but it does have nice beaches and if you like bars and restaurants there are more than enough of these to keep you busy every night.

Food and drink are very reasonable - lira is giving a good exchange rate to euro at the moment, so that makes it cheaper again! Its about 2.35 TYL to €1.00. Beer is usually between 3.5TYL and 5.00TYL (depending on where you go, some bars/hotels will be more expensive) so that equates to €1.50to about €2.50 per bottle. Efes isn't bad, but Tuborg is also brewed locally and I prefer this. Non-local drinks (such as branded spirits like smirnoff, bacardi etc) will be more expensive. Local spirits are grand, just be careful of the local brand brandy and some of the cheaper rakis as they will tear the stomach from you!

Food is great - especially if you eat in Turkish restaurants and not just the ones geared to the tourists. Iskender Kebap, Adana kebap (spicy), kofte, izgara - all highly recommended. And if you eat in turkish places it will be VERY cheap (as in about €20 for 2 people, 2 courses with drinks!). Also try the kumpir (turkish baked potatoes) and pide, lamacun and gozleme.

In kusadasi the most popular things to do/see are Adaland (the water park), day trip to Ephesus (highly recommended but go on a trip that leaves early in the morning as it gets very very hot and there is no shelter. Bring lots of water). A trip to the Dilek penninsula and the Dilek National park is also a great day out.

Then of course there is the old town with its shops - but be prepared to be hassled. And there are the markets - again hassle and haggling is expected!

Enjoy Turkey (and try Turgutreis or Cesme next time! :P )

OH - edit to add - have a Turkish bath too (Hamam)!! And for the gents have a Turkish shave and neck & Shoulder massage - These are a definite MUST when in Turkey!
