That element of the march can be attributed to the more hardcore, bike-cycling, socialist element.

    I haven't a clue-no who your talking about

That section of the pro-palestine crowd must be well stocked with idiots, i find it hard to imagine they are that stupid. Anyway, i wonder what Israeli goods people were buying, i dont see much/any made in Israel on stuff i buy?

Sometimes the products you buy might be of origin somewhere neutral, but owned by Israeli investors.

Teva in the industrial estate would probably be the largest Israeli company in Waterford. If you are asmathic you're probably using or have used their products.

If people are going to boycott Israeli products/services does this mean a business should refuse to take money from a Teva employee? ;)

I'm not aware of too many products produced in Israel, seen it mentioned on some fruit/veg from time to time. I know Sodastreams are made in Israel as there was stuff about that previously.

On the subject of Tesco's I was talking to somebody who was shopping in Tesco at the time and they mentioned there was certainly a few hundred protesters involved...so very far from just a few bad eggs.

They mentioned they also saw a protester spit at a young boy who picked up a item while shopping.

    Bang out of order,

People can do what they want - I'm not advocating any sort of approach.

Sodastream were probably a bit unlucky, I'm not sure. They are based in the West Bank, and say they offer equal opportunities to workers on both sides, and claimed to take extra steps to protect Palestinian employees. Whether that's true or not I don't know.

did this really happen, sounds like something that would make the national news if it did happen, CCTV etc.

Would it make news? Maybe/maybe not...but then lots of stuff happens that RTE & Co don't cover.

Is there anything worth covering if you don't have VT of it? Would Tesco want the bad PR...would they give a news agency cctv footage?

i'm guessing Tesco would be very much against any such coverage

Teva are the only Israeli company in Waterford, arent they?

Lets say hypothetically that the government expel the Israeli ambassador and cut all ties with them, would that have any effect on Teva could they pull out of the country maybe?

Unlikely to pull out, but it wouldn't be very welcome at all, and would probably hurt the Waterford operations going forward.

just reading the comments about the Gaza protests etc.

Can anyone explain why on protester had a communist flag at their get together in town?

What does it have to do with it, and if anything, is it not hypocritical to fly a flag that symbolizes a regime responsible for the killing of millions?

I'd imagine the protesters don't stop and think long enough about the actual implications of what they are requesting,

Perhaps they only want to boycott products like food, instead of their phone, laptop or tablet :D

There is no logic to having a communist flag at a protest about Gaza, it makes zero sense.

anyone have insight into the issue with the old gasworks car park or lack of progress, i know the port were complaining and i also heard that they were expecting some money from Bord Gais (possibly because someone paid to clean up the place) but bord gais or some semi-state agency has an issue. Shame as the river there looks great now (barrier and walkway), planning was in and done for the area, reinstate pedestrian bridge and put another vehicle one in too.

It's based on years of service, so as the longest serving Councillor, he was always going to get the most amount of money. I'm not sure how it works, but because being a Councillor isn't a full-time permanent role, they get a gratuity payment instead of a pension.

But didn't they only have a temporary contract, which expired each time an election was called?

I thought SF's populist looking for 15% rate cut in LPT was disgraceful and irresponsible. I wonder what services they proposed be cut if 15% was to go ahead. When SF do stuff like this, it just drives me further from considering voting for them, its hard to vote for anyone these days.
Also disappointed that no one councillor as far as im aware suggested the possibility of increasing it slightly, maybe help fund a pedestrian bridge, clean up north quays etc.

I suppose they could part fund it by cutting cllr's allowances and benefits like was proposed when they wanted to cut business rates but who voted against it again? FG FF and LAB.
