Breach of contract?

    Hi all
I'm looking for a bit of advice please. I signed a contract with a company on 4th April. I was due to start working on a fixed date next month. Said company rang me yesterday saying the position (part time) is not available anymore as they are not taking on part-time staff. I'm fuming as I've turned down interviews as I believed 'my 'job' was safe.
Can I take them to the employment tribunal? I read somewhere that once the conditions of the contract were met which they were (reference checks, and satisfactory completion of the company's pre-employment screening questionnaire), that this is a breach of contract?
I have not signed anything retracting my contract and they are trying to fob me off with 1 weeks wages.
    Have I got a case?
