Is it possible to play Sony MP standard video 8 tapes in a DCR-TRV145E camcorder?

Hi guys, Wondering if my mate can alter the settings on my camcorder to play a tape as outlined above.The user manual says that tapes recorded in the digital 8 system/tapes recorded in Hi8/standard 8 mm system should play back however he is only getting a blank /blue screen??:confused: Selig
