Ah thats what really pissed me off. You dont!!! Once you get to the stages where you need a "ticket" theres a little tab in the bottom right corner which allows you to do three trials to unlock a ticket.

Must try it next time. Would never have realised that!

Y'know normally I'd say the DOJ theory was too far fetched, but given Shatter's leaking about Wallace this week I'm no longer quite so sure. Law enforcement can get access to pretty much anything with a subpoena or a warrant, and if our justice minister is willing to leak private information in order to embarrass a political rival you would genuinely shudder to question what else might be going on...

You kidnapping this thread to have a go at Shatter?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

facebook isnt a genre, its social networking are refering to; not all sites are like that,am the owner/admin of a specialist social network and its locked down to bits in terms of privacy unlike fb.:P

there isnt anything wrong with facebook nor social networking the problem is the muppets who leave their walls revealing to anyone and keep telling people where they are exactly, when theyre going to be on holiday [oh and ever so politely giving us a reminder when theyre at the airport and what airport theyre at],when theyre necking illegal pills/smoking the whacky baccy [with a photo of them doing this and their bongs/pills etc],snogging the face of slutty men or women, showing their bare arse/tits at the camera....oh yes am sure the thieves will be thankful when they turn up at the door to ransack the people vacant house and am sure their future bosses will look upon their drug use, stupidity and sluttery fondly.

people who dont know what theyre doing with a social network site really shoud ask someone they trust to help them out with setting up the privacy on it,its ridiculous the amount of people have across with fully open accounts lately and the sht theyre telling other people.

Can I have my laptop back now please? :(

    :pac:

Because who gives a $hite that you're on your way to see Star Trek for the 3rd time or that your little bundle of joy just learned to say something or that you just checked into the local for a few cocktails with the gurleees lol xoxo.

Well people obviously do care, as is evident by responses. If you don't care, then block/hide/ignore. It's not difficult, and I don't see why an issue needs to be made of it.

Anti-facebook stances seem like nothing but passive aggression.

But I said that I do block these people, so that's why it doesn't really bother me. Anymore I mean, since I blocked their updates. I like facebook, but it does seem to highlight how annoying a lot of people can be and how it brings out a certain attention-seeking side to some people.

Totally agree though that some people just disagree with facebook purely for the sake of it. You can take as much or as little from facebook as you like, it totally depends on your settings. It is amazing though what some people are willing to share, which is why facebook can get a bit tiresome at times.

I got into a discussion this evening with a family friend about Facebook privacy. He swears up and down that employers can apply to the Dept. of Justice in order to gain FULL access to everyones Facebook accounts. I asked one of my friends about this and he said that he has also heard of employers doing this. I thought this was ridiculous, but after seriously thinking about it- I really am not so sure! How do we really know what Facebook is doing with our information? Who can really see it?

I think I am going to delete my Facebook account. I find that on nights out, people that I have never met come up to say hello to me because they 'recognise me from Facebook'. Today, I couldn't get into a bathroom in a pub for a full five minutes because there were a group of girls taking photos of themselves at the door to put up on Facebook. I found out some very upsetting news a few weeks ago from reading a Facebook post, something that should never have been even posted. Conversations are based around Facebook posts. I guess I just don't want my life to revolve around Facebook and I think that's the way most people seem to be heading.

    Facebook is taking over.

Does anyone else share this view? Any thoughts?

If somebody choses to live their life around Facebook you have to wonder if there was much worthwhile life there before..

I have a weird experience the other day.

I was looking at buying a game online but decided against it at the last minute, about 30 seconds later on a totally different website no related to the previous website one bit there was an ad saying "You were recently on www.********.com and didn't purchase anything please enter this code of a 5% discount.

Ya 5% would of been handy but tbh that just plain freaked me out

I use facebook, and I enjoy it for what I use it for,
Main reason is for sharing info regardin gour local junior soccer club, of which I am secretary/PRO.
Obviously, I do have a personal account also, and this is used primarily for sharing funny stuff and football stuff, as well as chatting to mates etc....

If you don't want stuff on FB, well then dont bloody share it, and set your profile up to authorise tags etc.

For me, the people that do be on complaining about lack of privacy etc. are the same people that post the most on it!

The website you went to used cookies to get the information from your computer. Completely harmless in most cases (boards uses them extensively), but as you say- can indeed be a little intimidated by the idea of personalised advertising, but there are ways around that too!

I've had this happen a few times and, as had rooted out the lowest price, soccumbed to the -5%. But I imagined that it was the same company - different name

I like Facebook for creepin. I post absolute nonsense on there, but not anything (really) personal. Don't let any pics of me be tagged on my profile unless I approve. Spent too many weekends refreshing frantically so as I could delete the shame

A tall tale OP, friend of a friend story. No truth to that.
It's hard enough to get a reply from a government department, they aren't involved in anyone's facebook account.

Searches are done on interview candidates though.
Next time you do an interview and the interviewer likes you and may make an offer a couple of minutes will be spent looking for online accounts.
Just using your name, dob, email address and different things through google

No big deal. Photos of your nights out are normal and won't cost you a job offer.

You should have a special email address for your job hunting anyway. Use it for that and nothing else

I have a cousin who was turned down for a failry prestegious sales role, it was for a well to do company based in Dublin who have a good deal of accountants. He was turned down as they felt that after reviewing all of his information he was not the right fit for the role.
After he was shot down he asked on of the girls who intially contacted him for interviews what happened as all was going so well. The lady told him very bluntly that maybe he should keep from posting every detail of his life on facebook, he goes out every weekend and has a habit of meeting different ladies often, all of which went on facebook. the comapny wanted to keep its image so didnt feel the need to hire someone who is always on the lash.

A point nobody has really addressed yet is that many employers EXPECT you to have an online presence, especially for journalism/writing/creative type jobs. I've been told several times now that if they search for you and find nothing, your CV goes into the bin, because either you have something to hide or you're not into using social media, which is a bad thing as far as they're concerned.

Yeah great point, facebook and other social networking sites are seen as vital components to the job in many industries & not being up to speed with them would be considered to be a shortcoming in your skillset.

I work in media & if I deleted my Facebook, twitter, linkedIn etc I'd essentially be committing career suicide, they're pretty vital in keeping abreast of things at a fast pace & maintaining my profile as a professional.

Like anything, if you misuse them IE publish every single inane & not always flattering detail of your life for the world to see & don't exercise any judgement in how you're portraying yourself, you're responsible for whatever consequences come your way. Personally, I find it great for staying in my family & friends' daily lives when we're all spread out all over the world, and it's good for garnering stories and networking professionally too.

I deleted it last year, the only social media I use is YouTube just to watch videos. I will never join any of that nonsense again, Twitter makes me want to leave this world.

I've never used facebook or anything of the like.
I set up an account years ago and have still not done anything with it.

I'd say I'm the only one in my year in college without it and its utterly depressing how nearly everybody can't touch a pc without first logging onto it.

Lab exam => check facebook => read paper => **** yourself => add this to your status => wait for people to laugh at how witty you are => repeat this process during your repeat exam!
