There is no better time to start or re-start visiting the league that's at your doorstep. I'd also like to get your opinion on the comment in this youtube video.

    Here's the top comment from

Bohs have just equalised in the 91st minute in arguably the biggest game in Irish football.

    The comment:
"I'm just home after coming from Ireland, I live in Liverpool born and bred, and I was in the Bohs end when that goal went in. I loved it. It's the 5th league of Ireland game I have ever been to and I thought it was amazing, and I will be coming back again. How Irish fans support our teams is beyond me when you have things like that on your doorstep. Amazing day, great passion, I'd actually say you lads beat us in terms of passion even when we play Everton. Thanks for everything guys. You were fantastic."

To me, that is what the league is about: passion. It's shouting at the players on the pitch from 20 yards away hoping he hears you a) encouraging him on or b) Calling him an absolute tosspot because he celebrated a winner right in front of you. It's about being there holding up the display that antagonises the opposition fans. It's a hell of a lot more than sitting at home and watching football on the tv

Actually something I find relevant to the discussion is this ad that Pompey just released

Portsmouth wouldn't be a TV show, they'd be a circus.

Condescending fans and an incredible lack of registas means I'm out.

Seeing as the Premiership is over for another 2 months......maybe we should go out and play some ourselves!

My cousin wife is from Barcelona her family come over now and then and always want to go to Cork game or two. Diehard Barca fans

I have Italian and German friends who have been to games. loved it.

If you don't watch the league or don't want to that is fair enough. You can't tell person who to support or go, but it's a shame that many never give it a chance in first place and just moan about it rather then been part of the reason to make it better.

But you don't have to support a LOI team. Know guys who don't but still will follow teams in Local leagues and they are just as worthy of praise.

Condescending online possibly. But what exactly do you think fans at the ground would do that would be condescending?

29 goals and 2 penalty shoot outs in 7 League Cup games tonight.

Real, live, entertaining football on your doorstep.

We have to be the only country in the world where football "fans" don't actually go to games. Just give it a go people!

Well the kids of the local football team went the other night to watch St. Pats vs Shels, and all they could talk about it after it was the fight that they seen after the match. I know it could happen any time and anywhere but its not exactly a great example to be setting to encourage people to go to watch it.

Asked Setanta the other day had they considered showing League of Ireland games worldwide. They've just got rights for at least one upcoming game (Drogs v Dundalk in June) and surely it would be no harm sticking it on Setanta Australia or Asia as it'd be on at an hour when there's feck all else live sport on. I'd watch it anyway.

The response? Well, there was none

It's not, but you did answer the reality of the situation in your post too.

CCFC fans, at friendlies featuring a UK side, or an U21 international where there might be a bump in the crowd have been known to singing this heart breakingly cringey chant

    support your local team
    support your local team
We all do, and so should you
    support your local team

    Twats.

Just have to stick with MNS on the RTE player unless they have changed it to no longer world wide

The game between Salthill Devon and Pats last night was very entertaining. It's the best football Devon have played this season.

The Pats fans were great and that meant that some of the Devon kids who were finished training stuck around and tried to get a Devon chant going. Not very well but it's certainly better than anything they've had going on up there in the league.

i thought they were good in finn park, still beaten but put on a better performance than their results would suggest

harps/derry penalties... 2 great saves by ciaran who is well worth his call up to the u21 training squad, really stepped up this year. harps first and last penalties were just awful.

Not being a condecending or anything but I got a great laugh when Spurs were over playing Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League and the Irish fans of Tottenham were calling it Rovers away, despite the fact they lived 5 mins from Tallaght and were showing up with tricolours :pac:

Back on topic, I think that Liverpudlian dude that commented was very lucky to be in that Bohs end and witness a last gasp equaliser. That would get any testosterone fueled nut case fired up and wanting to return for more. Does that type of thing happen each week? No. Is Bray Wanderers going to Derry away going to be epic? Possibly not. But it's when you get to be a part of a big rivalry/moment like that Scouse chap was, it grabs you and there's no fighting it.

I was there myself in the Bohs end on Friday with a newbie (from the UK) and he said he felt such a tribal feel and that we was a part of it. Says he'll be back for more. Was made to feel like a part of the club when perfect strangers were embracing him after Ryan McEvoy slotted home so dramatically. It's something you cant feel through any tv set, whether that's LOI on telly, the Premiership or International matches.

So support a team that's even further away is the answer?

I know there's not football on everyone's doorstep and nothing can be done about that. The league should do everything it can to get teams like Kilkenny, Carlow, Tullamore, Tralee, Kildare County etc back in to the league in some way, shape or form.
