LibreOffice/OpenOffice adding random spaces when I open document.

    I have a .doc document (created in LibreOffice) with footnotes and tables. Until a few hours or so ago, the document was fine. I had created it in LibreOffice and had been filling it up, making changes, saving, closing, reopening, continuing and everything was fine. But then, all of a sudden, spaces started to appear.

    Where I had once put a single space between paragraphs, there was two or three, pushing things across pages.

    A tab, or an entire line space appeared between the number and body of some (but not all) footnotes.

    An empty cell appears in the first row of my table
    (ie The first row on my table goes from this:
    |HEADER 1|HEADER 2|HEADER 3|HEADER 4|
    |Entry 1 |....
    to this:
    |HEADER 1|________|HEADER 2|HEADER 3|
    |Entry 1HEADER 4|......)

    What the hell is going on?
