Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Everton crest due to change despite fans' disapproval

Not sure how many came across this story a while ago
The proposed new crest which has been registered as a trademark by Everton FC shows a lack of respect and ambition, claims NSNO’s Simon Paul.
Breaking away from the crest that adorns a club’s shirt is always a contentious issue, but several other clubs – including, sadly, Liverpool – have managed to make a credible and stylish move away from what has gone before them. So why can’t Everton?

Change is nothing new to the original crest designed by Theo Kelly back in the 1930′s, but the last two have perhaps been the most controversial. Before Kelly’s version was ever used on the club’s shirts, there had been many variations on the theme, but this latest move shows the most dramatic changes.

Rupert’s Tower has always been a feature, and remains so, but it’s not just the graphical representation of the former bridewell that stands out here. The omission of the club’s motto, for a start, hints at wanting to turn our backs on striving for the “optimum” at the club, while the year of the club’s formation replaces the tradition laurel wreathes either side of the tower.
Laurel wreathes were added by Kelly to represent success. Formula One winners still receive a laurel wreathe, and Fred Perry sportswear is adorned with it as a symbol of his success at Wimbledon. They served as a reminder to everyone who saw the badge that Everton were winners.

The motto, which inspired the name of this very website, is also something many Evertonians hold close to their hearts. It’s something that has gotten people through bad times, and inspired many a bluenose to better themselves through aspirations of success.

Removing both from the club badge shows a distinct lack of ambition and in many people’s eyes, respect.

No doubt the club will claim that the motto still rings true around the corridors of Finch Farm and Goodison Park, but without it in a prominent position, it can easily be overlooked by new recruits.

We will be told that fans were consulted about this change, and that it is not solely a result of a corporate pressure to revamp the badge – and make it more easily printed by sweat shops across the world – but you have to wonder which fans they asked, and how much they were listened to.
The current crest on Everton shirts has its critics. The additional height added to the tower, and the fact that the word “Everton” was seen to be needed underneath, to name but two of the issues fans have with it, and at least one of those things has been put right.

The new image of the tower is a much more realistic view – although the window is still there – but the word “Everton” still seems a necessity to whoever commissioned it. Why not hark back to the glory days and simply use “EFC” if identification is needed? And why the need for “1878″ to be so prominent? The whole new design is shoddy and would be unlikely to pass a GCSE in Graphical Design.

We understand that change is sometimes necessary, but only if it is positive. Judging from comments on our forums and on social media platforms, this change is far from positive.

The general consensus among most Evertonians on Twitter, message boards etc. is that this is a rubbish change that has all but been confirmed. Hard to know at this stage what's going to become of Everton.
