The best thing is having the internet at your fingertips.

The worst things is having to try to police table quizzes to ensure people aren't using their phones for exactly that reason!

Best thing is that there's an app for almost everything conceivable, and yet they still come up with more.

    Hi everyone,

When you consider that more than two-thirds of the Irish population own a smartphone of some kind, it’s safe to say they’re here to stay. The capabilities of these little (and big!) devices improve all the time, allowing us to automate aspects of our lives with ease. Climote is a case in point – an award-winning digital timeclock which pairs perfectly with a smartphone, allowing you to control your home heating from anywhere.

Until 31/05/13, you can get Climote at the reduced price of just €269 when you purchase one at our online store using the voucher code EI0105A - that's €130 off the RRP of €399!

And that’s not all of course: entering this month’s Boards competition will give you the chance to win either a HTC One or a Samsung Galaxy S4! The winner will have a choice between these two gorgeous smartphones, both ideal for running the latest and greatest apps, browsing the web, snapping pics, controlling your home heating , or, indeed, talking to friends and family (so long as they don’t interrupt your record-breaking game of Angry Birds).

To be in with a chance to win, just answer this question: What’s the best thing (and/or worst thing, if you must!) about owning a smartphone?

The competition runs until next Wednesday 29th May, and the winner will be chosen via random selection. The usual T&Cs apply.

    Best of luck!

    David
The best thing about owning a smartphone is being able to tell and show people where you are and what you are doing day and night, the worst things about owning a smartphone is people knowing how boring your life really is!

The best thing is I never get lost anymore with maps at my fingertips.

The worst thing is that getting lost can be an adventure!

The best thing about smartphones (apart from the connectivity) is the apps: I just saw one recently that lets you use your phone as an actual real-life tv remote!!!!! blew my mind :)

The best thing about a smartphone if having access to a wealth of online resources, such as price comparison sites and product reviews, bus timetables, flight delays, news, setting your set-top box to record remotely, social networking, weather reports etc.

The best the about owning a smartphone is the fact they are basically computers that fit in your pocket and that you can find out information about virtually anything no matter where you are!

The worst-probably the amount of procrastination they can bring about :P

The Best thing is that everything you could possibly need is now at you fingertips.

The worst thing has to be how anti-social the world has become with their heads buried in their phones

The best (and worst) thing about owning a smartphone is being always connected. Checcking emails or twitter or facebook is both great and horrible

Worst: Asking someone to take a photo of you and your family with your smartphone - and the person constantly clicks the wrong button. eventually you say thanks and and move on.

Best: the MP3 player or TuneIn radio app - to drown out all the loud conversations on bus journeys

The best thing about my smartphone is that it saved my life! Okay, a bit dramatic... I was stuck in mud (while driving) in the middle of no where, pitch black night, car battery dead and texted my gps location to the rescue team (my Dad and his friend, though technically they are in the mountain rescue) who were then able to find me :)

The worst thing, google phone navigation led me down the impassable road in the first place :P

The best thing, it's a portal to the cloud including my music, pictures, home movies, and a portal to the world, internet, email, text, phone.

The worst thing, the battery. It's a mobile smart phone that, for a significant portion of the working day, is powered from my laptop if I'm going to be socialising in the evening.

The best thing about my smartphone is it only chooses Electric Ireland electricity. No other electrons will do. :D

The best thing about owning a smartphone is being able to do so many different things whilst on the move from listening to music or the radio to browsing the internet or keeping in touch with people through so many different forms of contact and not just phone calls and texts.

The worst thing about owning a smartphone has to be how distracting it can be when you are in a lecture or studying for an exam.

The best thing about owning a smartphone is the access it gives you to your loved ones. Not only do you have the ability to call, text or email them, you can also reminisce over old pictures and videos in your smartphones gallery... or see newer ones via social networking apps.
If you're lost if can help you find your way
and if you dont want to be found... theres always an off button :)

The best thing about my smartphone is my weather app so I can predict when it will be cold enough for me to switch on my heating remotely with my Climote so I don't arrive home to a cold house :)

Best thing about owning a smartphone for me personally is being able to sync it to my laptop and keep an eye on what my 10 year old is at when I'm downstairs!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,796 ✭✭✭lintdrummer

Worst thing has to be battery life, big problem. Give me the S4 and I'll report back on how good/bad the battery is!

The best thing about a smartphone is the amount of things you can do with it. Imagine the size of the machine 20 years ago to do the same things!!. Oh and you can still call people on them too :D  Worst thing is the annoying beep beep of the battery running out every day!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,064 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Best thing: Having access to all your emails, facebook, messages etc.
Worst thing: Being addicted to accessing your emails, facebook, messages etc.

Best thing about my smartphone is that this little thing is more reliable than the 4 cameras I own put together, more powerful than the laptop I went to college with and has a never ending music / movie and games selection to choose from that fits in my back pocket.

It does my internet banking in a jiffy, keeps me upto date on news without buying a newspaper, mail without buying stamps, acquaintances without meeting face to face and even getting their location when I need to........

the bad thing is that I need to do all this in about 2 hours before the battery runs out. :(

........ Electric Ireland Please divert all resources into making a pocket size Arc Reactor.

Best thing about a owning a smartphone is how embedded it becomes in your life; from taking pictures of your kids, to sharing them with family and friends, to using it as an entertainment centre, an encyclopedia or a business tool.

The worst thing about owning a smartphone is how embedded it becomes in your life!! :p
