    In the telegraph article...

"Walker was playing Brian O'Conner, a former criminal-turned-policeman, in Fast and Furious 7"

Small thing, i suppose, but it annoys me.

    He isn't a former criminal-turned-policeman.

He was a policeman who turned criminal.

Did he not do stints in jail for stealing cars priar to becomming a cop?
I thought that's how him and ramone new each other?

So he's an ex criminal turned cop turned criminal turned cop turned criminal?

Wouldn't having jail time for grand theft somewhat impede someone's application to join the police force as well?

I wonder if they'll do a "The Crow" on it and use what they have, but bring in a body double to film some of the other scenes?

I wonder if they'll do a "The Crow" on it and use what they have, but bring in a body double to film some of the other scenes?

That would be the logical choice but I think they would be afraid of the faux outrage brigade claiming it would be disrespectful to his memory and other such rubbish.

I think they will just scrap large parts of the movie and reshoot it. Expensive, but this franchise is guaranteed money so they know they will make it back.

I know that one of the ideas suggested but quickly abandoned was using a stand in and CGI to put Walker in the scenes they needed.

The problem they have is that many of the set pieces, including many of big final moments are already in the can and as such they can't work around Walker. I can't see them scrapping what they've shot as I imagine that they want to keep as much of Walker in there as possible as this is will be his final film and I know that James Wan wants to do right by him.

A lot of people have been calling the whole thing a disrespectful and in poor taste but they need to get back shooting sooner rather than later. Every down day is costing hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars.

Is this just a new thing? When Heath Ledger died, I can't remember them calling for the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus to be cancelled. And my memory is vague, but I don't think they called for the Crow to be cancelled either. Is it just that it's a car movie and Paul Walker died in a car?

I have to say I think the body double and cgi option sounds the most respectful as it leave all of his work-to-date this in place.

For feck sake, they did it to Oliver Reed and there was no uproar about it!

Paul Walker Fast & Furious 7 Role May Be Completed By Stuntman Brother Cody
The creators of Fast & Furious 7 have said they may use Paul Walker's brother Cody to finish the deceased actor's scenes in the upcoming movie that is currently on halt.

Walker tragically died in a car accident two weeks after leaving a benefit event. The cast was on a short break from shooting and was originally scheduled to begin again the following day, but with Walker's untimely death, production has been plunged into limbo.

Producers had a string of meetings right after Paul's death. They soon realized they needed someone who looked like Paul to finish the movie and that's when they approached his nearly identical brother, Cody," a source told Mail Online. "They can shoot Cody from behind and at distance and if it's a shot they need Paul's face in close up they can CGI it later on. If Cody agrees it's because he wants to honor his brother's memory. There are many details that still need to be worked out, but right now the family and cast and crew are all still grieving."

The most logical way they could do it would be to have hime die in the film in a car bomb but that would be bad taste considering the real life tragedy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

^ That'd be in fairly bad taste, I guess it all depends on how much footage they have and what they can do with his brother, this is him:

    2.jpg

He could definitely pass for Paul in distant shots

I'd have no issue with a stand in being used as long as the FX work is decent. A lot of actors being CGI'd over just looks atrocious and you only have to look as far back as the Day of the Doctor to see how crap it can look

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,269 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Would people really not be able to forgive a little dodgy CGI in the circumstances?

Given the familial resemblance that's already there though, I'd have imagined a lot could be done with Hollywood level make-up artists.

Vin Diesel says on FB that the film will be released April 10th, 2015

‘Fast & Furious 7′ Will Not Kill Off Paul Walker’s Character
‘Fast & Furious’ fans have been mulling over Brian O’Connor’s fate ever since Paul Walker’s tragic death on Nov. 30, and on Jan 3. it looks like they got their answer — a consensus has been made that Brian will live on.
When Fast & Furious 7 speeds into theaters on April 10, fans won’t have to worry about one character’s fate — on Jan. 3, reports surfaced that the late Paul Walker‘s character Brian O’Connor will live through the film, despite the actor’s real-life untimely death.

After mulling over the decision for weeks, The Daily Mail reports that Fast & Furious 7 producers have come to a consensus, agreeing to not kill off Paul’s undercover cop Brian O’Connor. Instead, the character will retire.

“The plan is to ‘retire’ the character in a way that the studio hopes will satisfy fans of the franchise and make use of the existing footage of Walker,” The Daily Mail writes, quoting a report that reportedly comes from The Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently, the decision was ultimately made because the studio wants to continue the franchise.

“In the weeks after the tragedy, director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan, and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Universal’s lead executive on the Fast films, pored over the footage Wan had shot,” Daily Mail continues. “The trio then devised a plan to tweak the existing script so that Walker would remain a part of the story but could be written out, allowing the franchise to continue without him.”

I can't see Vin Diesel returning without walker to be honest but I think all around its the best idea. I'd imagine Paul Walkers Friends, Family and Fans would find it difficult seeing him die on screen.

I think Vin has said himself that 7 is the start of a new trilogy in the franchise but that could change now with Walker's death but I do think Diesel will continue with the franchise as well as starring in he produces and the franchise has been a big success since he returned and the addition of The Rock

    Eery how similar Cody looks to Paul from a distance on set;

    MAIN--Cody-Walker-and-Paul-Walker.jpg

    And on a separate note, Cody has been hired to star in future Fast and Furious movies as a new character;
The 25-year-old actor stepped in to fill the shoes of his brother on "Fast and The Furious 7" after Paul Walker's tragic death in a car accident in November.

According to a source for the Daily Mail, Cody Walker will continue to have a role in future movies.

"Paul's character Brian O'Conner will be seen retiring," the source said. "While his younger brother will join the crew."

"Of course, Cody isn't a replacement for Paul in any way, but the producers were really grateful that he stepped in to help them finish this last film and Cody so likeable and charming," the source continued. "It would be a tribute to Paul that Cody carries on the Walker name in the 'Fast and The Furious' movies."

The younger Walker was photographed on set embracing his on-screen wife, Jordanna Brewster, in Malibu, Calif., in May.

Production of "Fast and The Furious 7" abruptly came to a halt after Paul Walker's death. The release date for the new film is now April 10, 2015.

But the last few movies have been great? They know exactly what they are and aren't afraid to embrace their ridiculousness in a way The Expendables franchise just fails miserably at.

Looks good, these films know they're OTT and play to that quite well.

Can't wait. Expect to be gleefully entertained for about 2 hours, by wonderfully constructed (if non-sensical) actions scenes and cliched action movie one liners.

Going by the trailer it looks like it won't capture the best of the fifth one (which is the best of the lot, imo) as it was more a more grounded heist movie which i thought worked brilliantly. Enjoyed the sixth anyway - but the trailer looks like they have escalated from the sixth with its insane tank battle and bridge jumping moment.

Honestly, there's not another film this year that I'm looking forward to as much as I am this one. The franchise has gone from being a rather generic Point Break on land to one of the most enjoyable and fun action series in, well in many a decade. It's just good old fashioned fun that's actually far more intelligent than anyone ever gives it credit for. There's a lot to be said for a series which places entertainment above all else and who cares if the run way at the end of part 6 would be the longest in the world, who cares if there's huge flaws in the logic or it's not the least bit possible. As long as part 7 is as unashamedly over the top and fun that will suffice. And this time we got Kurt Russell and Jason Statham featuring aswell as the returning cast who are so comfortable with each other that I could easily watch them just riff for two hours.

Ditto. Whenever anyone moans at me about "being too serious and uptight" to enjoy Marvel movies I'll point them to my love of Fast and Furious 5 & 6. Easily 2 of the best blockbusters of this decade.

Herself really excited for this one. I can't help thinking how are they still making these.

To me the earlier films are almost like a separate entity. They've gone from modestly budgeted films about people driving in a straight line to bonafide over the top blockbusters with shootouts, fist fights, explosions and international espionage. I say fair play to Justin Lin for saying with the 5th movie "**** it, let's see how big we can go with this.", it's paid off well so far.

I just hope James Wan is as up to the task but it looks promising so far.

The first movie was fairly watchable but the follow ups were awful, by the time the fifth one had rolled around it was a franchise I had no intention of ever going near again. I can't think of another instance where a big franchise completely won me over after I had written it off the way the 5th film did.

I've been quite slack when it comes to going to the cinema lately, bar a few kids films I took my brother to see the only films I've seen in the cinema recently were Jupiter Ascending and Gone Girl and honestly there's not a whole lot that will entice me to make the trip in the coming months but Furious 7 will have me prebuying tickets. The scene in Fast & Furious 6 where Dom literally flies is still I think my all time favorite moment in a cinema. I'm pretty sure that I very loudly said "FUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKK" and may have clapped a little. When you have films such as The Avengers that take themselves way too seriously it's just so refreshing to have a franchise such as this which is all about having a little fun.

Rewatched part 6 last night and on second viewing it remains one of the most enjoyable 120 minutes of cinema that I have ever seen. It's at heart a big dumb action film but there's real heart here, the relationship between the characters is spot on and the easy slagging and camaraderie they share helps set it above pretty much every other ensemble we've seen. I couldn't help comparing it to the Avengers film, one which has a group of people but no chemistry between them. You get the feeling that you could happily spend 2 hours just watching Diesel and co shooting the breeze and still want more, honestly this may sound like hyperbole but if the academy recognised ensemble performances then the cast of Fast and Furious would be in with a good chance of winning.

I that part 5 was such a huge step up that there was no way any subsequent film in the series would be as good.
