Well, I suppose at least the breeder took the puppy back...? Like you say maybe the next home will be better, here's hoping.

Am still overseas, but was talking to the OH today and he was filling me in on the latest. He was walking past the neighbour's place and the guy was out on the street with the Presa and his kids. He started making small talk with the guy, and went to pet the Presa as she was being all waggy tailed and friendly. She seems to be a really lovely dog, as the OH has met her a few times now and she has always been very friendly. However, when he went to pet her this time, the guy yanked her away and started getting aggressive saying "don't you f*%#ing touch my dog". The OH was a bit taken aback, and told him not to be an eejit. Well, the guy started making all sorts of threats, "I'll f%*#ng burst you", "I'll break your f*%#ing nose" etc. The OH told him where to shove his threats and walked away. We were talking about it on Skype and were wondering what brought on that outburst. We have been quite civil in any meetings with that guy, and him likewise, but the underlying hostility has always been there somewhat. He definitely thinks we're some sort of know it all dog weirdos! However, the sudden aggressive reaction was odd. Maybe he feels he has something to hide? The OH hasn't seen the yard and the dog's weight is still ok, so it's hard to get anything that he could be reported for. We were also wondering if this guy is trying to encourage the dog to be unfriendly towards people. The big guy we took off him has issues with strangers that are primarily fear based...he was with that idiot during his crucial age for socialisation, so who knows what was going on in that period. It's awful to think that this may be what he's doing, particularly with an RB. It's awful to say, but a part of me really hopes she does start to lose weight so that there would be grounds to report him. So far, the DSPCA and the warden have been unable to get involved.
Anyway, with hostilities out in the open, it's extremely unlikely that we'll be able to make any sort of direct intervention when he gets sick of this dog...which will happen in a few months time when the weather changes (not that we can keep taking them in, we've a full house now). Well, again, it's awful to say, but hopefully it will happen before he decides to get her in pup, which seems to be his only motivation for having her. Interestingly, a few weeks back, he started showing an interest in seeing the big boy we took off him...but quickly lost that interest when he learned that he is now neutered. Maybe that's why he isn't bothered with the facade of civility anymore...

I'd just leave it now. There's nothing you can do, and all you're doing is tying yourself in knots..

    A bit of an update...
Yesterday, and the day before, the DSPCA were outside his place. They were knocking on the door (which leads directly to the yard rather than inside), and looking through the letterbox. Obviously, he was either out or ignoring them.
I wasn't there to see it but the OH told me. Today, he spotted the neighbour with the dog, so I dont know what the outcome was. We have no idea who called them. I would imagine it must be someone who has seen or heard something, considering that they wouldn't come out before. One day recently, the OH noticed the dog was limping, but she was fine the next day, so he felt he didn't have grounds to call. When I called before, they couldn't even log the call. I guess, at the very least, he's offically on their radar now, so if any future calls need to be made, they may be taken more seriously. Also, this indicates that other people are obviously keeping an eye on what's going on.

Well, this sorry chapter has finally drawn to a close.
I got back from my college placement a few weeks ago and the OH was saying how he hadn't seen the guy out and about with the Presa girl. We ran into his next door neighbour the other day who said that the guy had given the Presa back to the guy he bought her from (the same person who had the Dobie). There were some inconsistencies in what was being said...the fact that the DSPCA were outside the door came up (still don't know who called them), and the neighbour said that the dog had been returned two weeks prior to their visit...which we know not to be true. Who knows...all that can be hoped for is that she ends up somewhere better.
It's unreal, that asshole has acquired and discarded four dogs in less than a year! He'll probably keep doing it too. Aside from the obvious effect it has on the poor dogs, he is setting a terrible example to his kids.
