just wondering if anyone knows anything about this assessment? what questions they ask about the coarse thesis etc and the type of students they pick?..... thanks

This most likely means that you're either at the top of your class, or borderline degree wise, i.e in the edge of a 1st or 2:1

The main purpose is to ensure that the quality of UCD degrees is on par with other Universities
